Revised U.S. Trade Agreement with South Korea

The renegotiated Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (KORUS) is a substantial improvement over the original deal. The revised agreement can help reduce large, persistent trade deficits within important sectors such as the automotive industry supply chain. For years, the U.S. automotive supply chain faced a number of non-tariff trade barriers that were carefully imposed by the government of South Korea. Whether it was obscure customs requirements, duplicative emissions testing, or burdensome labeling requirements, the net effect was to discourage access to Korea’s consumer market. The administration has wisely addressed these unjustified Korean trade barriers and has negotiated the extension of a truck tariff that will allow Americans to keep making trucks and earning good wages. Polls taken before President Trump took office showed the public perceived that government wasted about half the money it collected. Congress and the administration can do a lot more to get our fiscal house in order. One common-sense fix that has been neglected is confronting the irrational use-it-or-lose budget practices in Washington. In the private economy, any business that spends less on overhead than budgeted is rewarded. In government, the opposite is true. Agencies that spend less than they received are punished, in their view, with lower budgets. Rather than lock in these savings, agencies engage in end-of-the-fiscal-year spending sprees. Amazon is taking its shipping methods to the next level and this time it means a more direct service for your consumer needs. Amazon has purchased over 20,000 new delivery vans from Mercedes Benz and plans to implement a new strategy in customer service. Instead of allowing the usual carrier services to ship your favorite Amazon purchases, the company will use their own vans to deliver your packages. Amazon consumers can now expect to see an Amazon van dropping off packages to their front door. What Rights Do Women Have?

While friend of Harvey Weinstein, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and politician Mazie Keiko Hirono are lecturing us all, telling us we must believe an accuser simply because she’s a woman (which is closer to a medieval inquest or trial by ordeal than it is to common law) 3,000 Yazidi and Christian women are, to this day, in Isis captivity used as sex slaves, being raped, tortured, beaten and sold. Over half of the Christian girls kidnapped by Boko Haram in Nigeria are still missing. The anniversary of their captivity came and went without a peep from Michelle Obama or the many meaningless hashtag feminists crying "Bring back our girls."

According to the CDC, 513,000 girls in the U.S. live under the threat of female genital mutilation or have already undergone the procedure. Women in Iran, Saudi Arabia and many areas across the Islamic world are arrested and tortured for removing their hijab.

Puzzlingly, Paul David Hewson, a/k/a Bono, lead singer of the rock group U2, was granted a meeting with the pontiff, which reportedly lasted for at least 30 minutes. At the meeting, which took place at the Casa Santa Marta hotel where Pope Francis maintains his residence, the rock singer and the Holy Father are said to have discussed topics ranging from capitalism and the environment to the clerical sex abuse scandal. I then watched as this smear was picked up by Florida papers, and escalated into the claim that I was actually a “racist.” This false claim was then reprinted by media all over the state. Their apparent goal was to attack Congressman Ron DeSantis by linking him to me... or rather this distorted image of me. The alleged link was the fact that I had invited him to give a speech at my Restoration Weekend, an event I hold every year at The Breakers in Palm Beach. The goal of this headline and article was to defame me, hoping that my name would be unfamiliar enough that most readers would not realize how absurd the characterization was.

For the record, I am a lifelong civil rights activist. I marched in my first civil rights protest against racial discrimination in 1948 and have been fighting for equal rights for African Americans and other minorities ever since. I persuaded the Trump administration to back a $130 billion scholarship program for inner city kids. I am one of the only conservatives who spoke out in defense of Trayvon Martin and said that George Zimmerman was guilty of manslaughter.

Far from being “racially charged,” the Restoration Weekend, at which Rep. DeSantis and many other public officials, internationally prominent writers and thought leaders have spoken, reflects my dedication to diversity, inclusiveness and equality. To call it racist is pure fabrication. The Weekend has featured many African Americans as keynote speakers, including former Democratic Mayor of Washington, D.C., Business Owner Herman Cain, Adrian Fenty, Wall Street Journal editor Jason Riley, Fox Business Channel anchor Charles Payne, former Congressmen Allen West and J.C. Watts, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Ben Carson, radio talk show host Larry Elder, Turning Points USA activist Candace Owens, Breitbart columnist Sonnie Johnson and others.

To call the events I have hosted in West Palm Beach “racist” is ludicrous. To then imply that anyone who speaks at the event is a “racist” is fraudulent and despicable. Today, “racism” is less the description of a hateful pathology, as it was all those years ago when I first marched against segregation, than it is a weapon used to indiscriminately destroy reputations and wound those with whom we disagree. As Americans who care about preserving the fabric of our democracy, we need to reject this cynical effort to use race to divide us.

I am no racist and neither is Ron DeSantis or anyone else who attends and speaks at our events. Such a mindset would not be tolerated at any event sponsored by the David Horowitz Freedom Center. Up to $100 Billion Annual Revenue Potential From the MAC

The Market Access Charge (MAC), which would require congressional legislation, would be a small tax levied on the purchase of every dollar-denominated asset by a non-U.S. person or entity. The MAC would raise substantial revenue for the benefit of the U.S. Treasury. The Democrats’ scorched earth policy on anything Trump was certain to reach Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh. Now, it has. In the last year since the #MeToo movement began, Democrats have been throwing out due process and thwarting the will of voters by ousting Republicans and Democrats who don’t toe the party line. They have done this with the use of unsubstantiated charges of sexual harassment and threats of further charges if they did not resign.  The irrational and collectivist hysteria of the #MeToo movement has gone virtually unchallenged by Republicans. Hurricane Florence brought out haters of President Donald Trump and they’re showing their anti-scientific paganism. CNN political analyst John Avlon said Mr. Trump’s “policies have been tearing down our defenses to climate change, which is often to blame for extreme weather. ... Warmer [ocean] water means more intense storms.” The leftist Washington Post editorialized that Mr. Trump was somehow “complicit” in this storm, as though he had conjured its destructive forces by black magic. If President Trump possesses such awesome “weather god” powers, as USA Today mocked, then leftists should think twice before making themselves targets of his lightning bolts, not merely his Twitter jibes. John Kerry’s Telling Remarks

Former Secretary of State John Kerry acknowledged that he has been engaged in what many government officials view as rogue diplomacy. In what appears to have been an effort to revive the now-defunct Iran nuclear deal, the probable presidential aspirant revealed that behind-the-scenes he has been in talks with a high-ranking representative of Iran. Kerry had already admitted that he had met several times with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif, and that the talks had taken place without the approval of the Trump administration. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo took to the podium regarding Kerry’s unauthorized meetings: “You can’t find precedent for this in U.S. history, and Secretary Kerry ought not to engage in that kind of behavior,” Pompeo said in a press conference at the State Department. “It’s inconsistent with what foreign policy of the United States is as directed by this president, and it is beyond inappropriate for him to be engaged...what Secretary Kerry has done is unseemly and unprecedented. Doctor Shortage Will Only Worsen under Single-Payer

America’s doctor shortage is becoming more and more severe. The Association of American Medical Colleges recently projected a shortfall of up to 120,000 physicians by 2030. Obamacare didn’t cause this crisis. But it has made the problem worse. The law created countless administrative headaches for doctors. Some have responded by retiring early or leaving the practice of medicine altogether. Many more may join them if Democrats are successful in their bid to launch a full-scale government takeover of the U.S. health care system. Musk & Tesla Make Headlines Again

Les Moonves’s Career at CBS Comes to an End

In July of 2018, the New Yorker’s Ronan Farrow completed a detailed investigation, centering on sexual misconduct allegations from six women against CBS Chairman and CEO Les Moonves. The women claimed that Moonves had propositioned and/or had forcible physical contact with them, threatened retaliation against those who had rejected him, and otherwise maintained a workplace in which sexual harassment went unabated. Allegations put forth by the women suggested that a toxic culture existed at CBS. When the allegations went public, Moonves responded at the time with an acknowledgement that he was responsible for making “some women uncomfortable.” However, he denied claims that he had harmed the careers of those who had resisted him. Then, like a series of aftershocks after an earthquake, an additional six women stepped forward, via reporting by Farrow, with accusations against Moonves. [more...]

No Reason to Be Jealous of Nominee's Plan for Health Care

Democratic gubernatorial nominee Ben Jealous currently trails Gov. Larry Hogan, the Republican incumbent, in the polls. But the challenger has a plan to turn the tide. Jealous has released a detailed proposal to enroll most state residents in MD-Care, a government-run health insurance plan that would “eliminate co-pays, high-deductibles, and other out-of-pocket barriers to coverage.” He hopes his “Medicare-for-All”-style reform will win over voters worried about rising health care costs. That’s a risky bet. Single-payer health care would require massive tax hikes and result in poor quality care. Numerous other blue states have considered but ultimately rejected single-payer proposals for those exact reasons. Marylanders would be wise to follow suit. [more...]

I wrote my recent book The History of Jihad From Muhammad to ISIS mostly chronologically, starting with Muhammad’s conquests in Arabia and moving forward. It’s a bloody history, and one indelible impression one gets from proceeding through the centuries of jihad warfare is of the persistence of the jihadis. The last chapter deals with jihad in the twenty-first century and opens with 9/11. After having written the story of nearly fourteen hundred years of relentless jihad warfare, George W. Nike released its new “Just Do It” ad this past Labor Day, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the “Just Do It” campaign.  The ad was nothing short of controversial, as it contained a closeup of Colin Kaepernick’s face with a quote that read, “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.” Kaepernick, a former NFL quarterback who is known more for taking a knee during the national anthem, rather than throwing a football, was chosen to headline this campaign due to his social justice activism.  The ad has sparked all sorts of reactions, from people burning their old Nike gear, while others rushed to the nearest store to purchase more Nike merchandise, to others taking their reactions to Twitter.  Furthermore, Nike’s stock price fell 2.9% on Tuesday and was the worst performing company on the Dow Jones Industrial Average. [more...]

Nike’s New Romance with an America-hating Racist

It’s a bad time for bad sneakers. Nike sales have seen their slowest growth in seven years. It was the worst performing Dow stock of 2016. Americans don’t seem to want badly made overpriced shoes put together by slave labor. The failing company tried to turn around its poor sales by doubling down on its abrasive lefty politics. Nike’s Consumer Direct Offense was supposed to stand for reclaiming American market share, instead of directly offending consumers. But if Nike can’t sell its shoddy athletic wear, it can offend Americans. Last winter, Nike unveiled the “Pro Hijab.” Now it decided to make Colin Kaepernick, the racist black nationalist who began the trend of protesting the national anthem, into the face of its Just Do It campaign. Bosch Fawstin is an Eisner-nominated cartoonist, the creator of The Infidel series featuring his anti-jihadist superhero Pigman, and the winner of the 2015 AFDI Mohammad Cartoon Contest organized by Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer which took place in Garland, Texas. Muslim fundamentalists have issues with artistic representations of the “religion of peace's” warlord prophet, so two armed jihadists tried to disrupt that event and slaughter the participants but were killed in the attempt. Especially since then, social media attacks and death threats have become a way of life for Fawstin, whose artwork has graced many David Horowitz Freedom Center pamphlets and FrontPageMag articles. McCain has already been canonized by an establishment media desperate to destroy President Trump in any way it can, but in Egypt they’re not so worshipful. McCain “was the main supporter for the terrorist Brotherhood. Senator McCain was the one who opened up the Congress to the Brotherhood. He was the one arranging the meetings and appointments and providing them with protection.” Remember that when Michele Bachmann called for an investigation into Muslim Brotherhood infiltration in the U.S. government, McCain denounced her on the Senate floor as a bigot and an Islamophobe. The Hollywood actress-turned-politician is challenging Andrew Cuomo in the New York primary for Governor. It’s no secret that she is endorsed by the The Democratic Socialists of America. But why is it so common for wealthy, privileged celebrities to embrace Leftist ideas?  They find it easy to show moral indignation towards the wealthy, other than themselves, and advocate for the confiscation and re-distribution of other peoples’ money. Young Doctors Need to Wake up to the Grim Reality of Single-Payer Healthcare

For decades, doctor organizations such as the American Medical Association have opposed single-payer healthcare. But this opposition is ebbing. At the group's June meeting, a cohort of younger doctors urged the AMA to adopt a neutral position toward socialized medicine. The student arm of Physicians for National Health Insurance is part of the push. Growing in recent years, the group now has 1,400 members at more than 60 medical schools. These young and idealistic doctors no doubt mean well. But if they understood how badly patients and doctors fare under single-payer, they'd be far less keen on socialized medicine. [more...]

Farm Bill Unlikely to Stop Flow of Taxpayer Subsidies to Wealthy Urbanites

A movie star is more likely than a cowboy to stroll down Beverly Hills’ famed Rodeo Drive, but that doesn’t mean there are no farmers in Tinseltown. Or at least Congress thinks so, judging by the farm bill, which sent $15,488 in farm subsidies last year to the homes of Hollywood’s elite. “Farmers” in Aspen, Colorado, got $278,000, while the fertile plots of New York City were fertilized with $2.8 million. Congress is back at the drawing board, writing an update to the farm bill - though budget watchdogs say there is little chance that lawmakers will rein in the kinds of policies that shelled out $13.2 billion last year, with much of that going to “crop insurance” subsidies. The farm bill may be the clearest example of how special interests can trump the public’s interest. Both the recipients and the funders have a vested interest in not disrupting the flow of subsidies that generates income and political donations. Transparency is so critical because the public can’t reform a process it can’t see. The farm bill gets less attention from a national press more focused on White House scandals and hot-button social issues, but it is heavily covered - and debated - in agricultural communities.
