Revised U.S. Trade Agreement with South Korea

The renegotiated Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (KORUS) is a substantial improvement over the original deal. The revised agreement can help reduce large, persistent trade deficits within important sectors such as the automotive industry supply chain. For years, the U.S. automotive supply chain faced a number of non-tariff trade barriers that were carefully imposed by the government of South Korea. Whether it was obscure customs requirements, duplicative emissions testing, or burdensome labeling requirements, the net effect was to discourage access to Korea’s consumer market. The administration has wisely addressed these unjustified Korean trade barriers and has negotiated the extension of a truck tariff that will allow Americans to keep making trucks and earning good wages. Kavanaugh Obstruction is Left's Latest Attempt to Weaponize #MeToo

Once again, the Left is using unsubstantiated charges of sexual misconduct to manipulate the political landscape into one that is more to their liking. It is a testament to Judge Brett Kavanaugh's character that Democrats had to reach all the way back to his juvenile years at an all boy's school to find something they thought they could use. Don't they usually fight against the idea of minors being charged as adults even when the crime is murder? Yet, they're not ashamed of scrutinizing the alleged behavior of a 17-year-old boy if it accomplishes their political mission. [more...]

Let's End Washington's Use-It-or-Lose-It Spending Culture
By Adam Andrzejewski, Author of “Operation Drain the Swamp”

Polls taken before President Trump took office showed the public perceived that government wasted about half the money it collected. Congress and the administration can do a lot more to get our fiscal house in order. One common-sense fix that has been neglected is confronting the irrational use-it-or-lose budget practices in Washington. In the private economy, any business that spends less on overhead than budgeted is rewarded. In government, the opposite is true. Agencies that spend less than they received are punished, in their view, with lower budgets. Rather than lock in these savings, agencies engage in end-of-the-fiscal-year spending sprees. If they don’t use it, they’ll lose it. [more...]

Amazon Buys 20,000 New Delivery Vans

Amazon is taking its shipping methods to the next level and this time it means a more direct service for your consumer needs. Amazon has purchased over 20,000 new delivery vans from Mercedes Benz and plans to implement a new strategy in customer service. Instead of allowing the usual carrier services to ship your favorite Amazon purchases, the company will use their own vans to deliver your packages. Amazon consumers can now expect to see an Amazon van dropping off packages to their front door. This initiative puts Amazon in the best position to help small business owners lease vans for deliveries through Amazon at a discount rate. [more...]

Hating Men in a Real Life Handmaid’s Tale

The Handmaid’s Tale cosplay is, like so much of postmodern feminist outrage, a dystopian fantasy in search of a reality. Its imaginary universe, of the book and the show, in which men are innately predatory, validates their conviction that Brett Kavanaugh must be guilty, because he is a conservative white Christian man. And they’re all rapists. Just like the oppressors of Gilead in The Handmaid’s Tale. The Handmaid’s Tale is to postmodern feminists what Birth of a Nation was to white nationalists. Both are fantasies by which the powerful justify their oppression by imagining themselves to be powerless. Wealthy career women pretending that they’re slaves, staring at the ground as an aggressive protest, dressing up like nuns, the Amish or other members of religious communities that they despise, is a costuming that reveals the malicious hypocrisy of the lefty protesters, not of their conservative targets. [more...]

The Problem with Single-Payer? Eventually, You Run Out of Other People’s Money
By Sally Pipes, President & CEO of the Pacific Research Institute

Democrats have made a complete government takeover of the healthcare system the linchpin of their pitch to voters in this fall’s elections. Free health care is a potent rallying cry. But eventually, single-payer’s champions will run out of other people’s money. The numbers don’t lie. America can’t afford single-payer health care; and they won’t like the inevitable long waits, rationed care, higher taxes, and shortage of doctors to treat them. [more...]

What Rights Do Women Have?

The hysterical hatred and resentment against President Trump and anyone associated with him has reached a tipping point in our nation. The leftist Democrats who have stated they believe the Kavanaugh accuser without having heard a word of testimony is a bad trend in America.  Leftist women march on the capitol proud to display their victimhood, playing dress-up and whining about their lack of rights while thousands of women across the globe who are true victims of rape and torture are forgotten.

While friend of Harvey Weinstein, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and politician Mazie Keiko Hirono are lecturing us all, telling us we must believe an accuser simply because she’s a woman (which is closer to a medieval inquest or trial by ordeal than it is to common law) 3,000 Yazidi and Christian women are, to this day, in Isis captivity used as sex slaves, being raped, tortured, beaten and sold. Over half of the Christian girls kidnapped by Boko Haram in Nigeria are still missing. The anniversary of their captivity came and went without a peep from Michelle Obama or the many meaningless hashtag feminists crying "Bring back our girls."

According to the CDC, 513,000 girls in the U.S. live under the threat of female genital mutilation or have already undergone the procedure. Women in Iran, Saudi Arabia and many areas across the Islamic world are arrested and tortured for removing their hijab.

In my new bestselling book, Rise: In Defense of Judeo-Christian Values and Freedom, I urge Americans to fight “the leftist Islamists coalition” which promotes those who hate America, from radical Islamists such as Linda Sarsour and leftist organizations such as Planned Parenthood, the ACLU and the SPLC. They are working together to destroy and sabotage the America we believe in.  It’s time to RISE up, take back America and vote out those who ignore the rule of law.

The Feminist Cult of Victimhood

Christine Blasey Ford is the latest poster child in the feminist cult of victimhood. She achieved that status by claiming she was physically attacked at a high school party by Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh three decades ago. She immediately became the perfect useful idiot whose false memories and false allegations are being fully exploited to postpone the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh. She is the latest symbol of oppression among anti-Trump women activists. Instead of characteristics like honor, integrity and courage, feminist heroines must first and foremost be victims, real or imagined. [more...]

Killing Kavanaugh - Justice Delayed is Justice Denied
By Lowell Ponte

We now know that rape is real in the case against President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee. Judge Brett Kavanaugh is being raped by the Democratic Party, by its willing accomplice Christine Blasey Ford, and by its leftist comrades in the national media. Worse, the Democrats’ delaying tactics may be about to kill Kavanaugh’s nomination. Under the U.S. Senate’s arcane rules, if Republicans go along with Ford’s lawyer’s demand that she not testify before next Thursday, then the clock could run out and Kavanaugh’s nomination process will end before the vote on his confirmation a week later can be taken. This best-qualified jurist in 50 years will have been taken out by a late hit, an Alice-in-Wonderland political character assassination that gives new meaning to the old saying: “Justice delayed is justice denied.” [more...]

America is a Divided Nation Now and Calling Each Other Racists Makes It Worse

Our current divisions have poisoned our political discourse. Instead of discussing the important public policy issues that should drive our national conversation, too often we find ourselves engaged in name calling and character assassination of those with whom we may differ on policy matters. No word in our language has the ability to damage a public figure more deeply than “racist.” I know this for a personal fact. I was recently smeared as holding a “racially charged event” by an irresponsible headline writer at the Washington Post. I then watched as this smear was picked up by Florida papers, and escalated into the claim that I was actually a “racist.” This false claim was then reprinted by media all over the state. Their apparent goal was to attack Congressman Ron DeSantis by linking him to me... or rather this distorted image of me. [more...]

Dems Succeed in Delaying the Process While Rushing to Judgement

It has come to this: In order to produce the political outcome they want, Democrats are willing and in some cases advocating for an end to due process.  Along with our history, and our time-honored traditions, they are now prepared to throw out the assumption of innocence until proven guilty - one of the cornerstones of our Republic. Alan Dershowitz said this week that such a notion is dangerous and un-American. It doesn’t matter that Democrats are in the minority. It doesn’t matter that they lost an election. They are willing to smear and destroy a Supreme Court nominee and drag the country through the mud to do it.  Their selective moral outrage as everyone knows, never included Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy or more recently, Keith Ellison. Such blatant hypocrisy doesn’t matter to them either. [more...]

Bono Talks with Pope Francis

It is not easy to obtain a meeting with the Pope, but U2’s front man was somehow able to pull it off. Puzzlingly, Paul David Hewson, a/k/a Bono, lead singer of the rock group U2, was granted a meeting with the pontiff, which reportedly lasted for at least 30 minutes. At the meeting, which took place at the Casa Santa Marta hotel where Pope Francis maintains his residence, the rock singer and the Holy Father are said to have discussed topics ranging from capitalism and the environment to the clerical sex abuse scandal. Mr. President, Wage a War on Waste
By Adam Andrzejewski, Author of “Operation Drain the Swamp”

Monday, in The Wall Street Journal, we launched a two-page ad encouraging President Trump to wage a three-pronged attack against federal waste: 1. Post White House expenditures online; 2. Cut executive agency waste; and, 3. Report monthly progress to the public. As commander in chief, President Trump can lead the “War on Waste.” America is facing a spending crisis. We are asking the president to defend the American taxpayer and cut the egregious waste, fraud, and taxpayer abuse from executive agency budgets.” [more...]

No word in our language has the ability to damage a public figure more deeply than “racist.”

I know this for a personal fact. The alleged link was the fact that I had invited him to give a speech at my Restoration Weekend, an event I hold every year at The Breakers in Palm Beach. The goal of this headline and article was to defame me, hoping that my name would be unfamiliar enough that most readers would not realize how absurd the characterization was.

For the record, I am a lifelong civil rights activist. I marched in my first civil rights protest against racial discrimination in 1948 and have been fighting for equal rights for African Americans and other minorities ever since. I persuaded the Trump administration to back a $130 billion scholarship program for inner city kids. I am one of the only conservatives who spoke out in defense of Trayvon Martin and said that George Zimmerman was guilty of manslaughter.

Far from being “racially charged,” the Restoration Weekend, at which Rep. DeSantis and many other public officials, internationally prominent writers and thought leaders have spoken, reflects my dedication to diversity, inclusiveness and equality. To call it racist is pure fabrication. The Weekend has featured many African Americans as keynote speakers, including former Democratic Mayor of Washington, D.C., Business Owner Herman Cain, Adrian Fenty, Wall Street Journal editor Jason Riley, Fox Business Channel anchor Charles Payne, former Congressmen Allen West and J.C. Watts, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Ben Carson, radio talk show host Larry Elder, Turning Points USA activist Candace Owens, Breitbart columnist Sonnie Johnson and others.

To call the events I have hosted in West Palm Beach “racist” is ludicrous. To then imply that anyone who speaks at the event is a “racist” is fraudulent and despicable. Today, “racism” is less the description of a hateful pathology, as it was all those years ago when I first marched against segregation, than it is a weapon used to indiscriminately destroy reputations and wound those with whom we disagree. As Americans who care about preserving the fabric of our democracy, we need to reject this cynical effort to use race to divide us.

I am no racist and neither is Ron DeSantis or anyone else who attends and speaks at our events. Such a mindset would not be tolerated at any event sponsored by the David Horowitz Freedom Center. We invite you to visit our website, www.horowitzfreedomcenter.org, to learn about our mission and our work promoting freedom and liberty for all Americans.

Tariffs on $200 Billion of Chinese Imports - Necessary Response to China’s Continuing Unfair Trade Practices

These tariff actions are a necessary response to China’s refusal to end dozens of commercial espionage and technology transfer practices. Our member companies have faced years of heavily subsidized competition from China, and they’ve experienced firsthand the aggressiveness of China’s hacking and intellectual property theft campaign. Our members have also had to confront the side effects of subsidized imports still affecting downstream markets. We see this, for example, with companies that produce products made from steel and aluminum. We’re pleased that the administration is now addressing this wider problem, and these broader tariffs will help to minimize distortions that come from partial tariff coverage. [more...]

Up to $100 Billion Annual Revenue Potential From the MAC

The Market Access Charge (MAC), which would require congressional legislation, would be a small tax levied on the purchase of every dollar-denominated asset by a non-U.S. person or entity. The MAC would raise substantial revenue for the benefit of the U.S. Treasury. We estimate the annual revenue potential of the MAC to be in the range of $19 billion to $100 billion.  The estimates should be regarded as preliminary indicative estimates and not firm forecasts. [more...]

Is Oregon Governor Kate Brown Asking Taxpayers to Fund Her Re-Election Campaign?
By Adam Andrzejewski, Author of “Operation Drain the Swamp”

According to Oregon law, public funds cannot be used for a political purpose. Yet, data we’ve compiled shows a troubling pattern of Governor Kate Brown mixing taxpayer-funded travel with campaign fundraising events. This pattern could allegedly violate state law or the governor’s own ethics policy, which states, “employees are expressly prohibited from using any work time or any state resources to conduct political activities.” Recently at Forbes, we wrote about the governor using state agency resources and employees to log and redact from disclosure the details around 500 campaign events on her official state calendar since 2015. Now, we found Brown repeatedly blurred the lines between state agency resources and campaign activities – for years. [more...]

Three Lessons for Today’s Policymakers

If these lessons were heeded, we would avoid numerous foreign and domestic policy mistakes. On September 13, 2018, I spoke at the Freedom Center’s Wednesday Morning Club in Los Angeles. Introducing my new and bestselling book, The History of Jihad From Muhammad to ISIS, I discussed three lessons from Islamic history that are unknown in the West today, and are often outright denied by those Leftists who are rewriting history in service of contemporary political agendas. I show how these lessons, if heeded, have massive implications for American foreign and domestic policy. [more...]

Major Corporations Get Behind Racism and Anti-Semitism

Last week, Rep. Maxine Waters received the National Leadership Award from the National Newspaper Publishers Association. The NNPA is an association of black papers that includes Final Call, the paper of Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam. Ford, GM, AT&T, Pfizer, AARP, Comcast, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation act as partners and sponsors of an association that includes a notorious racist and anti-Semitic hate group. Ford had spent a long time trying to live down its past association with another anti-Semitic paper, The Dearborn Independent, only to end up associated with yet another violently anti-Semitic publication. [more...]

Conservatives Must Fight Out of Control #MeToo

The Democrats’ scorched earth policy on anything Trump was certain to reach Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh. Now, it has. In the last year since the #MeToo movement began, Democrats have been throwing out due process and thwarting the will of voters by ousting Republicans and Democrats who don’t toe the party line. They have done this with the use of unsubstantiated charges of sexual harassment and threats of further charges if they did not resign.  The irrational and collectivist hysteria of the #MeToo movement has gone virtually unchallenged by Republicans. That strategy will keep working if we don’t fight back. We must actively oppose the Left’s longstanding vendetta to emasculate straight men and turn women into the next victim-group-turned-voting-bloc.  [more...]

Politicizing the Weather

Hurricane Florence brought out haters of President Donald Trump and they’re showing their anti-scientific paganism. CNN political analyst John Avlon said Mr. Trump’s “policies have been tearing down our defenses to climate change, which is often to blame for extreme weather. ... Warmer [ocean] water means more intense storms.” The leftist Washington Post editorialized that Mr. Trump was somehow “complicit” in this storm, as though he had conjured its destructive forces by black magic. If President Trump possesses such awesome “weather god” powers, as USA Today mocked, then leftists should think twice before making themselves targets of his lightning bolts, not merely his Twitter jibes. John Kerry’s Telling Remarks

Former Secretary of State John Kerry acknowledged that he has been engaged in what many government officials view as rogue diplomacy. In what appears to have been an effort to revive the now-defunct Iran nuclear deal, the probable presidential aspirant revealed that behind-the-scenes he has been in talks with a high-ranking representative of Iran. Kerry had already admitted that he had met several times with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif, and that the talks had taken place without the approval of the Trump administration. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo took to the podium regarding Kerry’s unauthorized meetings: “You can’t find precedent for this in U.S. history, and Secretary Kerry ought not to engage in that kind of behavior,” Pompeo said in a press conference at the State Department. “It’s inconsistent with what foreign policy of the United States is as directed by this president, and it is beyond inappropriate for him to be engaged...what Secretary Kerry has done is unseemly and unprecedented. This is a former Secretary of State engaged with the world’s largest state sponsor of terror.” [more...]

Doctor Shortage Will Only Worsen under Single-Payer
By Sally Pipes, President & CEO of the Pacific Research Institute

America’s doctor shortage is becoming more and more severe. The Association of American Medical Colleges recently projected a shortfall of up to 120,000 physicians by 2030. Obamacare didn’t cause this crisis. But it has made the problem worse. The law created countless administrative headaches for doctors. Some have responded by retiring early or leaving the practice of medicine altogether. Many more may join them if Democrats are successful in their bid to launch a full-scale government takeover of the U.S. health care system. Single-payer health care would exacerbate America’s doctor shortage and make quality care much harder to obtain. [more...]

Les Moonves’s Career at CBS Comes to an End

In July of 2018, the New Yorker’s Ronan Farrow completed a detailed investigation, centering on sexual misconduct allegations from six women against CBS Chairman and CEO Les Moonves. The women claimed that Moonves had propositioned and/or had forcible physical contact with them, threatened retaliation against those who had rejected him, and otherwise maintained a workplace in which sexual harassment went unabated. Allegations put forth by the women suggested that a toxic culture existed at CBS. When the allegations went public, Moonves responded at the time with an acknowledgement that he was responsible for making “some women uncomfortable.” However, he denied claims that he had harmed the careers of those who had resisted him. Then, like a series of aftershocks after an earthquake, an additional six women stepped forward, via reporting by Farrow, with accusations against Moonves. [more...]

The Democratic Party Must Change its Name

The now-socialist Democratic Party has fundamentally transformed itself. Because it now opposes democracy, it should be required to change its name. The Democratic Party has abandoned free markets and white, working class, and middle-class Americans. A majority of its voter base is now young African-American, Latino and other groups. These minority voters rightly ask why aging white politicians devoid of any new or constructive ideas are ruling their party. It is time to remove its mask and demand that they use a truthful name, such as the Anti-Democracy Party. [more...]

Is the Left Using #MeToo to Overhaul State Governments and Mobilize Women?

Ever since pink-hatted protestors marched on the mall the day after President Trump’s inauguration, Democrats have been predicting a “Year of the Woman” ahead of the 2018 midterms. Almost a year since the Harvey Weinstein story broke in October 2017, the #MeToo movement has sparked a flurry of allegations, resignations, and ultimately, generalizations painting women as victims and men as perpetrators. Now that Weinstein accuser Asia Argento stands accused of sexual assault, herself, some in the #MeToo movement have seen the need for greater discernment and due process. These voices were virtually absent when the shoe was on the other gender’s foot.  And now Moonves is history.  [more...]

No Reason to Be Jealous of Nominee's Plan for Health Care
By Sally Pipes, President & CEO of the Pacific Research Institute

Democratic gubernatorial nominee Ben Jealous currently trails Gov. Larry Hogan, the Republican incumbent, in the polls. But the challenger has a plan to turn the tide. Jealous has released a detailed proposal to enroll most state residents in MD-Care, a government-run health insurance plan that would “eliminate co-pays, high-deductibles, and other out-of-pocket barriers to coverage.” He hopes his “Medicare-for-All”-style reform will win over voters worried about rising health care costs. That’s a risky bet. Single-payer health care would require massive tax hikes and result in poor quality care. Numerous other blue states have considered but ultimately rejected single-payer proposals for those exact reasons. Marylanders would be wise to follow suit. [more...]

Bush After 9/11: “Islam is Peace”

I wrote my recent book The History of Jihad From Muhammad to ISIS mostly chronologically, starting with Muhammad’s conquests in Arabia and moving forward. It’s a bloody history, and one indelible impression one gets from proceeding through the centuries of jihad warfare is of the persistence of the jihadis. The last chapter deals with jihad in the twenty-first century and opens with 9/11. After having written the story of nearly fourteen hundred years of relentless jihad warfare, George W. Bush’s “Islam is peace” speech at the Islamic Center of Washington, D.C. six days after 9/11 jolted me as it never had previously. [more...]

Antitrust Law Should Be Used to Break Up Big Tech Monopolies

President Trump, via his Twitter account, recently prompted a public discussion about the possibility of using antitrust law against major technology companies, due in part to a growing body of evidence that bias is being perpetrated against conservative individuals and entities by such companies. The primary rationale of antitrust enforcement is the protection of the American consumer and free market economy from unprincipled business behavior by monopolistic enterprises. [more...]

Two Muslims Try to Build a Bomb Involving a Driverless Car

Nike’s New Romance with an America-hating Racist

It’s a bad time for bad sneakers. Nike sales have seen their slowest growth in seven years. It was the worst performing Dow stock of 2016. Americans don’t seem to want badly made overpriced shoes put together by slave labor. The failing company tried to turn around its poor sales by doubling down on its abrasive lefty politics. Nike’s Consumer Direct Offense was supposed to stand for reclaiming American market share, instead of directly offending consumers. But if Nike can’t sell its shoddy athletic wear, it can offend Americans. Last winter, Nike unveiled the “Pro Hijab.” Now it decided to make Colin Kaepernick, the racist black nationalist who began the trend of protesting the national anthem, into the face of its Just Do It campaign. Making millions of dollars for hating America without having to ever get out there and play is the opposite of “sacrificing everything.” It’s getting paid for doing nothing. [more...]

Bosch Fawstin is an Eisner-nominated cartoonist, the creator of The Infidel series featuring his anti-jihadist superhero Pigman, and the winner of the 2015 AFDI Mohammad Cartoon Contest organized by Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer which took place in Garland, Texas. Muslim fundamentalists have issues with artistic representations of the “religion of peace's” warlord prophet, so two armed jihadists tried to disrupt that event and slaughter the participants but were killed in the attempt. Especially since then, social media attacks and death threats have become a way of life for Fawstin, whose artwork has graced many David Horowitz Freedom Center pamphlets and FrontPageMag articles. Why We Need a Convention of the States

I present a case for a convention of the states whose purpose would be to reform our Constitution. Why are we raising this prospect of reform to the fundamental law of the land? It’s because we are in the midst of a constitutional crisis the likes of which we have not seen since the Civil War. It’s because a political left which rejects the framework of the Constitution is now in control of the Democratic Party and is pursuing an agenda that has already destroyed key pillars of our democracy and will go on to destroy its very foundations if bold measures are not taken. [more...]

McCain was the Main Supporter for the Muslim Brotherhood

McCain has already been canonized by an establishment media desperate to destroy President Trump in any way it can, but in Egypt they’re not so worshipful. McCain “was the main supporter for the terrorist Brotherhood. Senator McCain was the one who opened up the Congress to the Brotherhood. He was the one arranging the meetings and appointments and providing them with protection.” Remember that when Michele Bachmann called for an investigation into Muslim Brotherhood infiltration in the U.S. government, McCain denounced her on the Senate floor as a bigot and an Islamophobe. There was no investigation. [more...]

Cynthia Nixon and Hollywood Hypocrisy

There’s a new Nixon in political-town - Cynthia Nixon - but her politics are as old as Karl Marx. The Hollywood actress-turned-politician is challenging Andrew Cuomo in the New York primary for Governor. It’s no secret that she is endorsed by the The Democratic Socialists of America. But why is it so common for wealthy, privileged celebrities to embrace Leftist ideas?  They find it easy to show moral indignation towards the wealthy, other than themselves, and advocate for the confiscation and re-distribution of other peoples’ money. I’m not sure they realize that it brings poverty to just about everyone but why are they so comfortable with their sense of superiority about their ignorance?  Leftism has been so endemic in Hollywood that we barely notice and hardly ever ask such obvious questions. [more...]

Are You Ready for ‘President’ Nancy Pelosi?

Loony leftists such as Bill Clinton’s former Labor Secretary Robert Reich now demand nothing less than “annulling” Trump’s election as invalid. Everything Mr. Trump has accomplished as president must be nullified and erased, demands Reich, and the Orwellian air-brushing of the very name and face of Donald Trump must erase him from history and turn him into a “non-person,” as if he had never existed. He wants President Trump and Vice President Pence removed from office by the U.S. Supreme Court. If Democrats win the House this November, under the Constitution Nancy Pelosi could thus become President. Young Doctors Need to Wake up to the Grim Reality of Single-Payer Healthcare
By Sally Pipes, President & CEO of the Pacific Research Institute

For decades, doctor organizations such as the American Medical Association have opposed single-payer healthcare. But this opposition is ebbing. At the group's June meeting, a cohort of younger doctors urged the AMA to adopt a neutral position toward socialized medicine. The student arm of Physicians for National Health Insurance is part of the push. Growing in recent years, the group now has 1,400 members at more than 60 medical schools. These young and idealistic doctors no doubt mean well. But if they understood how badly patients and doctors fare under single-payer, they'd be far less keen on socialized medicine. [more...]

Farm Bill Unlikely to Stop Flow of Taxpayer Subsidies to Wealthy Urbanites
By Adam Andrzejewski, Author of “Operation Drain the Swamp”

A movie star is more likely than a cowboy to stroll down Beverly Hills’ famed Rodeo Drive, but that doesn’t mean there are no farmers in Tinseltown. Or at least Congress thinks so, judging by the farm bill, which sent $15,488 in farm subsidies last year to the homes of Hollywood’s elite. “Farmers” in Aspen, Colorado, got $278,000, while the fertile plots of New York City were fertilized with $2.8 million. Congress is back at the drawing board, writing an update to the farm bill - though budget watchdogs say there is little chance that lawmakers will rein in the kinds of policies that shelled out $13.2 billion last year, with much of that going to “crop insurance” subsidies. The farm bill may be the clearest example of how special interests can trump the public’s interest. Both the recipients and the funders have a vested interest in not disrupting the flow of subsidies that generates income and political donations. Transparency is so critical because the public can’t reform a process it can’t see. The farm bill gets less attention from a national press more focused on White House scandals and hot-button social issues, but it is heavily covered - and debated - in agricultural communities.
