Contradictions Abound in Cohen Hearing as Corrupt Inquisitors "Seek Truth"

By Karen Kataline

While Donald Trump was in North Vietnam doing the job that former U.S. Presidents refused to do, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee were doing children’s theater in Washington, D.C. They trashed Trump like there was no tomorrow just as he was meeting face to face with Kim Jong Un to do all he could to prevent a nuclear war to make sure there is a tomorrow. The contrast of the petty vs. the profound was dumbfounding. The Michael Cohen hearing was like a bad car wreck; I couldn’t look away. In a real trial, just about every one of these questioners would have had to recuse themselves. As the hearing wore on, the contradictions were laughable. Then, they became entertaining.

Cohen made sure to thank Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff.  His closing statement sounded like a political speech written not surprisingly by Lannie Davis. This is where he chose to mention that he disagrees with Trump’s immigration policies and that’s one of the reasons no one should support him. That is Trump’s real crime: he doesn’t kowtow to the corruption in Washington, D.C. but continues to expose it. [more highlights...]

President Trump Should Stay Strong on China
By Michael Stumo

We urge President Trump to continue his strategy of strength and leverage in the U.S. trade and geopolitical relationship with China. We know from the mistakes of past presidents that previous promises by Beijing were not kept. The President’s tariffs are working to rebuild the U.S. economy, achieve leverage, and dampen China’s ability to erode America’s economic, military, and geopolitical strength. Fundamental change is needed. China must stop the dozens of acts and practices it uses to steal and otherwise wrongly acquire critical technology from our government and private companies. Our bilateral trade relationship must be rebalanced across a broad array of industries beyond commodities and semiconductors. China must quickly and convincingly shift from excessive reliance on the U.S. consumer market for its growth to greater reliance on domestic consumption. Enforcement mechanisms must be clear, strong, and quick. China must agree not to retaliate if enforcement of any agreement occurs. [more...]

Trouble Follows Oscars
By James Hirsen

This year’s Oscars should have been a win for Hollywood, but trouble still follows Hollywood’s once prestigious annual event. According to preliminary figures, ratings for the 91st Academy Awards were up slightly. Unfortunately, it is not enough to assuage anxiety over the awards show’s downward trend. The second host-less Academy Awards ended up having the second-smallest audience in Oscar history. Audience size for this year was 28 million, according to the calculations of The Hollywood Reporter. This figure is up about 6 percent over the disastrous Kimmel-hosted show’s preliminary ratings of the previous year. Viewer-ship size was based on a 20.1 rating/33 share in metered-market households. Hollywood is Oblivious
By Karen Kataline

There’s a reason they call it “La La Land.” There, in the world of dreamland, there is a “community” of actors and show biz types who live in a world of fantasy - and it’s not just when the cameras are rolling. But why? Could it be for the same reasons that so many are addicted to drugs, have failed marriages and commit suicide? Eventually, they can’t handle the cognitive dissonance of living a life of rage and anger while they enjoy a level of wealth, fame and privilege few of us could ever imagine.  We’re not jealous of them, but some seem to be jealous of us for being “normal.” In some cases, that jealousy turns into contempt, as we are reminders of their own hypocrisy. I guess that’s why they believe they must continuously lecture us about the immorality of walls and the forced redistribution of our meager assets as compared to themselves, while they extol the virtues of “income inequality.” [more...]

Democrats Propose Trillions in Reparations for Blacks
By Lowell Ponte

President Obama refused to endorse the controversial idea of giving African-Americans trillions of dollars to atone for the evils of slavery. So did Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and most of today’s dozens of Democratic presidential aspirants. But days ago, three Democratic candidates – Sen. Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts, Sen. Kamala Harris from California and former Obama cabinet member Julian Castro of Texas – embraced giving blacks a stratospheric fortune in reparations. Others soon may follow. For Warren and Harris, this latest “ginormous” giveaway was their way to blast past rivals in the Democrats’ mad race to win the radical left’s checkered black-and-red flag of victory. For Castro, it was his chance as an almost-unknown Latino to buy the attention and votes of African-Americans. [more...]

Job Creation from a Competitive Dollar Up to 6.7 Million
By Jeff Ferry

We used a standard econometric model to, for the first time, quantify the amount of dollar adjustment needed to end the U.S. trade deficit over a reasonable period of time as well as the job creation and economic growth results. The paper explains the capital flow dynamics that cause the dollar to be persistently overvalued and how it contributes to global imbalances that are a risk to international growth. The authors then present how different magnitudes of dollar adjustment impact exports and imports before determining an optimal adjustment to balance trade in six years. The impact on the domestic economy is significant job creation, up to 6.7 million additional jobs over baseline expectations from 2020 to 2024. [more...]

Competitive U.S. Dollar Could Produce Over Six Million New Jobs
By Jeff Ferry

A new study of the U.S. economy shows that the U.S. dollar is overvalued by 27 percent. Adjusting the dollar to a competitive level would yield large benefits to the economy, including an estimated $1 trillion in additional GDP and up to an additional 6.7 million new jobs over six years. The study, entitled Quantifying Economic Growth and Job Creation from a Competitive Dollar, uses the REMI economic model of the U.S. economy to capture the impact of exchange rates on imports, exports, and the domestic economy. When the dollar moves down by 27 percent over six years, export volumes rise, which enables domestic industries - including manufacturing, mining, and agriculture - to grow at higher rates. The United States is the only major world economy that has suffered from an overvalued currency and persistent trade deficits for more than 40 years. [more...]

Washington is Missing a Chance to Cut the Federal Workforce
By Adam Andrzejewski, Author of Operation Drain the Swamp

Both parties have adopted a mantra of protecting federal employees during the recent government shutdown and ongoing showdown over immigration. Last month, all House Democrats and 29 Republicans voted to increase federal pay by 2.6 percent. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said the effort was about “treating federal employees with the respect they deserve and compensating them for the financial stress the Trump-McConnell shutdown has inflicted on them.” But the reality is federal employees are hardly victims. While it’s true that many are hard-working patriots who could earn significantly more in the private sector, many are not. Still, politicians reflexively defend the status quo out of fear of a political backlash. Their goal is not to protect federal employees or taxpayers, but themselves. [more...]

Dem 2020 Hopefuls - All Roads Lead to Single-Payer
By Sally Pipes, President & CEO of the Pacific Research Institute

The Democratic Party's presidential hopefuls are diverse in all ways but one - their stance on healthcare reform. The front-runners want to eliminate private insurance and put everyone on a government-run plan. But that's not something they've been enthusiastic about revealing to voters. Their legislative records tell a different story. The question is not whether Democrats favor eliminating private insurance - it's how fast they'll do it. [more...]

The Answer to Our Ballooning Federal Deficit
By Jeffrey Katz

In my new book, The Secret Life: A Book of Wisdom, I write that the highest level of charity is to teach a person to fish, not to hand out fish: the common-sense principle of making people self-sufficient. So, why, in America, with an economy now producing millions of new jobs, do we not have a strong bipartisan federal policy promoting a massive federal jobs retraining program? The answer to our ballooning federal deficit is increased productivity, by getting people off government assistance and into productive, good jobs. So, why is this not happening? Sadly, it is because there is no coalition or consensus in our country for a national policy of putting our citizens back to work through retraining. [more...]

President Trump's Emergency Declaration Will Survive Lawsuits
By James Hirsen

According to Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.), the new Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, President Donald Trump possesses the lawful authority to use emergency powers to fund and build a barrier at the border. In response to an interview question about the legality of the president’s recent emergency declaration, Smith told the host of ABC’s “This Week” George Stephanopoulos, “Unfortunately, the short answer is yes. There is a provision in law that says the president can declare an emergency. It’s been done a number of times...” The congressman added that the president would be the recipient of a court challenge. [more...]

Why are False Accusers So Often Leftists?
By Karen Kataline

The story of Jussie Smollett is just the latest high-profile example of a flurry of manufactured hate crimes since the election of a president which the Left has still refused to accept. This case ought to be the tipping point; however, to make it crystal clear that the Left’s broken record that America is full of racists, bigots and homophobes, is complete bunk. If their accusations are so true, why do they have to keep fabricating the evidence? We have watched repeatedly as “agents provocateurs” concoct crimes of racial injustice and bigotry. In reality, they are the perpetrator of lies and propaganda that are used to viciously frame and defame innocent people. [more...]

The 2020 Election - A Choice, Not an Echo

Today, we have a choice, not an echo, thanks both to President Trump and to the Saul Alinskyite radical leftwing transformation of the Democratic Party, which has sharply polarized voter choices. Consider just a few of the hundreds of today’s right-left polarizations. The voter choice in 2020: Trump’s border wall, or Democrats in effect promising no border at all. Democrats openly aim to transform America by erasing its past, present, future, Constitutional rights and laws, borders, entrepreneurs, private property and free enterprise. [more...]

By Jamie Glazov

They stage “hate-crime” attacks against themselves because hate crimes are their political and cultural capital. When those hate-crimes don’t exist, they must be invented. We are witnessing precisely this phenomenon at this very moment in regard to the myriad of hoax “hate-crimes” that anti-Trump forces are manufacturing out of thin air and blaming on Trump supporters. The media are bolstering the entire hallucination process, with CNN leading the way.

We really have three major political camps in this country, not two as is commonly thought: 1) Socialist Utopians whose objective is the broad redistribution of the existing wealth in our country. Their focus is on increasing entitlements, not jobs re-training; 2) the Establishment/Chamber of Commerce camp, which consists of the pro-big business establishments of both the Democratic and Republican Parties. This camp is primarily interested in attracting cheap foreign labor, not in retraining Americans for jobs; and 3) the so-called Americanists, who view themselves as old-fashioned patriots. They are largely supporters of the president and would get behind a jobs-retraining program; but because they are basically the only ones, we don’t see it.

USDA Failed to Craft a Strategy to Protect Farmers and Ranchers
By Michael Stumo

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue wrongly criticized the tariff actions imposed in 2018 by President Trump. The USDA compensation program was a good start, but no further strategy was created to address low farm prices which, in most cases preceded the retaliatory tariffs. U.S. agriculture has been suffering from global oversupply and excessive concentration in food processing for many years. USDA’s free trade agenda and opposition to country of origin labeling has spurred imports to displace U.S. farm and ranch products in our home market. Further, the free trade policies of the past have not only enabled global oversupply but prevented any action to fix that problem. President Trump directed Secretary Perdue to craft a strategy to protect farmers and ranchers from tariff-related retaliation. Perdue should not respond with opposition to the very steel, aluminum, and China tariffs that are addressing foreign trade cheating. [more...]

The Greatest Enemy of Socialism is Free Will
By Karen Kataline

The Left is already in the middle stages of imposing their evil and seductive ideology on the rest of us. Consequently, they have abandoned many of the ideas they formerly pretended to cherish. Case in point, they don’t lecture us much anymore about “tolerance” and “compassion.” They are more willing than ever to let us see their intolerance for white people, straight men, conservatives, Christians, rural dwellers, law-abiding citizens and, of course, Trump voters. Like a cult that most people would easily dismiss if they were told the whole truth up front, Socialism must be sold deceptively and incrementally in a velvet glove. It’s a pretty picture of Utopia where there is never any want; there is equality and fairness for all, and no one has more than anyone else. The Incredible Hypocrisy of Jeff Bezos
By Daniel Greenfield

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos did not pay $250 million for the Washington Post because it was a good deal. In his own words, “It is the newspaper in the capital city of the most important country in the world. The Washington Post has an incredibly important role to play in this democracy.” Clear away the PR euphemisms and the world’s richest man was saying that he bought the Post because it sets the agenda in Washington, D.C. and helps determine the outcome of elections. Bezos isn’t the first tycoon to buy influence by buying an influential paper. The power he wields with the Washington Post is a pale shadow of the Hearst empire. Dot com billionaires keep buying up media white elephants. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff is buying Time. The Atlantic is in the hands of Steve Jobs’ widow. The New Republic is being run into the ground by Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes. [more...]

Ilhan Omar's Non-Apology for her Anti-Semitism
By Robert Spencer

The anti-Semitism of hijabbed Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has apparently gotten to be too much even for the inveterately anti-Israel Democrat Party leadership. “I unequivocally apologize,” Omar tweeted Monday, after party leaders including Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, James E. Clyburn and others publicly castigated her: “Congresswoman Omar’s use of anti-Semitic tropes and prejudicial accusations about Israel’s supporters is deeply offensive. We condemn these remarks and we call upon Congresswoman Omar to immediately apologize for these hurtful comments.” However, Omar’s apology was more of an admission that she had gotten caught than a sign of a genuine change of heart. But Omar’s second paragraph nullified her apology. [more...]

Ralph Northam Should Resign
By Jeffrey Katz

In my new book, The Secret Life: A Book of Wisdom, we can directly tie Maimonides’ teachings to the issue of whether Ralph Northam should resign.  And yes, he should resign. They tell us that, on an interpersonal level, one should be quick to forgive someone who asks forgiveness. But full redemption is available only when one again finds himself in the same position but chooses to act differently the second time around. In Northam’s case, this would mean that in the 35 years since his blackface incident, he has worked to soothe racial tensions in this country and advance the cause of African-Americans, rather than do the opposite. But, indeed, he has done the opposite. By his exploitation of the race issue for personal political gain in his last campaign against Ed Gillespie, Northam showed no desire to soothe racial tensions, but instead inflamed them. He did this through his outrageous campaign ads painting supporters of Gillespie as vicious racists. He has earned no redemption on the race issue and needs to resign under the principles taught by Maimonides.

The Mass Exodus from High Tax to Low Tax States
By Kerry Lutz

Upon passage of the new tax law, FSN foresaw a human exodus from high tax to low tax states. We’re witnessing over-taxed northeast migrating en masse to our corner of paradise in Florida. This process is being repeated in the income tax free states of Nevada and Washington that provide a haven from over-taxed and regulated California. They’re experiencing high growth rates, too. The trend has been going on for many decades and the SALT (state and local taxes) limit has exacerbated it. Nationally, the prime beneficiaries of this migration are the states that charge little or no personal income tax. These include Florida, Texas, Tennessee, Arizona, Nevada, Washington state, South Dakota, Alaska, and New Hampshire. While no one is rushing off to South Dakota or Alaska, the other states on the list are booming. Liberalism’s runaway costs have become impossible to hide. [more...]

Jeff Bezos's Extortion Claim May Go Nowhere

Founder of Amazon Jeff Bezos, the richest man in the world, entered the political arena about six years ago with his purchase of The Washington Post. American Media, Inc. (AMI) is the company that owns The National Enquirer, which is the media outlet that recently revealed Bezos was involved in an extramarital affair. But if there is no prosecutable crime, there seemingly would be no impact on the non-prosecution agreement. Much of the analysis and reporting on the latest chapter in the Bezos saga illustrates the hunger on the part of many in the mainstream press for anything that can be weaponized against the president and used to ratchet down his poll numbers. Elizabeth Warren's 'Magic Fairy Dust' Economic Policies
By Lowell Ponte

“Our fight is for big structural change,” said Senator Elizabeth Warren (D.-Mass.), announcing last Saturday that she is running for president. Her goal, she said, was to “take power from the wealthy and well-connected,” and to “change the rules” of our “economy” and “democracy.” Days earlier, Senator Warren became co-sponsor of neophyte Congresswoman AOC’s “Green New Deal” resolution, which promises to replace airplanes with high-speed railroads, banish most cars, outlaw fossil fuels and nuclear power, retrofit every building in America, and provide guaranteed income for those “unable or unwilling to work” – and to achieve all this in only ten years. Most economists regard these utopian fantasies as literally insane. [more...]

Trade Deficit Moderates to $49.3B in November; China Deficit Improves Sharply
By Jeff Ferry

Trade data for November 2018 published by the Department of Commerce indicates that the Trump Administration’s tariffs may finally be improving our balance of trade. The November goods and services deficit came in at $49.3 billion, 11.5 percent better than October’s figure of $55.7 billion. Equally significant, the November figure was only a hair (0.7 percent to be exact) above the November 2017 deficit of $49.0B. Deficits in previous months in 2018 were typically 10 to 15 percent worse than the corresponding month in 2017. If November is now level-pegging 2017 figures, that is a healthy improvement over the earlier months of 2018. [more...]

Why China is Losing the Trade War
By Jeff Ferry

I believe U.S. tariffs are working and China is losing the so-called “trade war,” which is not a war at all but simply a battle to enable the U.S. economy to stand once again on its own two feet. There is an emerging consensus in the U.S. that China’s exploitative behavior towards other nations and its manipulation and outright theft of technology from western companies can simply no longer be tolerated. This will frustrate President Xi’s plan, which has always been to spin out talks with the Trump administration for as long as possible in the hope that Trump would be succeeded by a more emollient president. But that is looking increasingly unlikely. Whoever succeeds Donald Trump will find no letup in the pressure to make America safe from the national security and economic threats of China. [more...]

We Support Executive Order to Expand Buy America Preferences
By Michael Stumo

President Trump’s executive order to strengthen Buy America preferences for infrastructure projects deserves praise. While Buy America typically covers federal projects, the executive order will now extend such requirements to state-level projects that receive federal funding. Buying American-made goods helps to strengthen both the nation’s broader manufacturing sector and key industries that also contribute to America’s defense industrial base. It’s simply common sense to use our tax dollars on American-made products, whenever possible. We commend the president for extending this approach to state-level projects that receive assistance from Washington. The new Buy America order encourages those receiving federal funds to use domestically produced iron, aluminum, steel, cement, and other manufactured products. This will increase the work for many metal producers and manufacturers and likely help to grow good-paying jobs. [more...]

Americans Make Record Job Gains as Media Suffers Record Job Losses
By Daniel Greenfield

The winter freeze might have shut down entire cities, but it couldn’t slow down job growth as the economy roared through the cold and shattered projections with 304,000 non-farm jobs in January. There were job gains everywhere from transportation (27,000) to health care (42,000) to hospitality (74,000). Under President Trump, construction gained 338,000 jobs in 12 months while manufacturing picked up 261,000 jobs in that same period. There was good news for many industries, but bad news for one. The media is freezing colder than the polar vortex with thousands of lost jobs in January and February. [more...]

'Medicare-for-all' Means Long Waits for Poor Care
By Sally Pipes, President & CEO of the Pacific Research Institute

If Oprah Ran for President, Would She Change?

During the State of the Union address last night, we witnessed the real time behavior of some of the Democrat candidates for the 2020 election.  It was hard for them to hide their feelings; they wore their hearts on their white sleeves.  And then there was the Dems' response (more of a campaign speech for herself) by Stacey Abrams who, though backed heavily by Oprah Winfrey, lost the Georgia gubernatorial election.  But what if Oprah, herself, ran for President? Would she compete with Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders in a race to the left?  Would she embrace Medicare for all? Open borders?  Identity politics?

There are many analysts who believe that Oprah would be a more than viable contender.  But would becoming a politician go against her nature?  Many of Oprah’s guiding principles in life seem eerily similar to those outlined by Maimonides over 800 years ago, described in my book, The Secret Life.  These include teaching a man to fish rather than giving him fish, giving charity anonymously, powering people to self-sufficiency, creating a cycle of positivity, bringing out the very best in people, always giving them the benefit of the doubt, and being open to good ideas and truth, regardless of the source.  (And, conversely, not getting involved in the “blame game,” and always judging people based on substance and character, as Dr. MLK envisioned, rather than identity politics.)

Oprah has always lived by the motto, “Excellence is colorblind,” and has tried to bring out the best in people. Charity, including anonymous charity, have been paramount in her life, especially in the field of empowering people through education. Her attitude is always positive and encouraging.  Are these devotions of Oprah’s in tune with the current direction of the left in our country?  Would campaigning and/or winning change her and her legacy?

Has the Left Gone Off the Deep End?
By Karen Kataline

In the last few months alone, the Left has publicly applauded or advocated for:
“safe” drug injection sites;
drag queen story hour for 2-8 year-olds and 11-year-old drag queens;
killing babies after they're born;
taking away guns from law-abiding citizens “for our own safety;”
demonizing Christians, conservatism and masculinity; and
blaming Donald Trump for a 35-year-old picture that either is or isn’t Virginia Governor Ralph Northam in blackface.

Leftists also argue for open borders, abolishing the death penalty even for mass murderers, the legalization of psychedelic mushrooms, gender “fluidity,” and giving hormones to children that retard their natural sexual development. Does anyone at this point think these things are coincidental or unrelated? [more...]
