Early Oscar Predictions

The 86th Academy Awards voting process has begun. Until the nominations are announced on Jan. 16, 2014, Hollywood will be holding its collective breath. Provided below is a short summary of what you might expect to hear on that date. The highly emotional and compelling "12 Years a Slave" is the favorite for Best Picture, with "Gravity" hovering nearby in the #2 slot. In addition, "American Hustle" is a lock for a nom. "Hustle" has a cast of Oscar and critic favorites and is inspired by a true story from the recent past, a concept that Academy members are quite fond of and one that is reminiscent of last year’s "Argo." "Nebraska," a unique take on aging, and "Captain Phillips," a real-life pirate action thriller, are likely to receive nominations as well. Other movies that could garner nominations include "Her," "Inside Llewyn Davis," "Fruitvale Station," "The Wolf of Wall Street," "Saving Mr. Banks," "Philomena," "Blue Jasmine," "August: Osage County," "Dallas Buyers Club," and "The Book Thief." Obamacare - More Like Obamacaid

Walk into a physician’s office that you don’t know and tell them you have Medicaid. See how far you get. Odds are you won’t get very far with the front desk attendant let alone see a doctor or a nurse. The reason for that is because most doctors don’t take Medicaid. It just doesn’t make financial sense. You see when you have a government run healthcare plan like Medicaid where there is a defined budget, the government must start to reduce payments to physicians to make up for wasteful spending everywhere else. When governments reduce payments, doctors opt out of Medicaid. According to Merrill Matthews, director of the Council for Affordable Health Insurance Obamacare will eventually be like Medicaid. My New Year's Resolutions

I resolve to hold my feet to the fire to push, poke, and prod myself and others around me to get this country back to "Liberty and Justice for All." All people, any color, any size and ethnicity should be able to pursue their dreams. I resolve to hold my elected officials' feet to the fire to do what they said they were going to do when they ran for election. I resolve to make sure every legal vote counts by shining a light on those who think that any person on American soil with a heartbeat has the right to vote. They don’t! Our founding fathers didn’t give up their property, family and lives for us to spit on the Constitution. Join me in a New Year’s resolution to ensure that: We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity. God Bless and Happy New Year! [more...]

Obamacare Provides Unfair Advantage to Big Labor

Virtually unnoticed and ignored by the media is the fact that big labor benefited tremendously from the deal struck last week to avoid the "catastrophic" fiscal cliff. The President abandoned his own concept of fairness, which of course is nothing more than a hypocritical one way street, in order to reward his big labor buddies and to ease the pressure they have asserted. The President clearly understood the displeasure of big labor with respect to Obamacare, and realized that he desperately needed to throw them a bone, and a big one at that! [more...]

Obamacare Provides Unfair Advantage to Big Labor

"Duck You!" to A&E

Have you heard the joke about the family of duck hunters that took down an entire billion-dollar TV network? It’s no joke. A&E just stepped in duck poop. They made the biggest mistake in the history of Hollywood – they showed us how leftists in Hollywood (and D.C.) really think. And America said, "Duck You!" Something amazing is happening in America. An awakening. More people showed support for the star of "Duck Dynasty" in 24 hours than signed up for Obamacare in its first few months. Which means at this point in time, Americans are starting to come to the conclusion we'd be better off with a duck hunter in the White House than Obama. Heck, we couldn’t possibly do any worse. [more...]

What Do You Believe In?

Duck Dynasty patriarch, Phil Robertson was recently attacked for basically quoting (albeit loosely) scripture and talking about his basic beliefs in an interview with GQ magazine. He talked openly about his experiences working alongside black workers back in his day and you would have thought he was caught skinning cats alive in the public square! I spoke to a few people who know Phil. They have all said he hasn’t changed from when he was flat broke, to when he was making money with the duck call business, to what he is now making on A&E. He hasn’t changed. The money and other resources he has given to those in need, the poor, the sick, and the homeless has increased as God increased him. [more...]

What is the Proper Role of Government?

What is the proper role of government? To protect individual rights... or to constrain the individual for the greater good? Such questions have tended to divide the people. But we need not be divided on this issue because community, society can only emerge from a group of free individuals, who, being free in their actions, can also be held accountable for their actions. A government that controls us with a top-down approach discourages individual responsibility and creative action. Good government must emerge from the bottom up and be responsive to the people. A large federal government concentrates power in the hands of a few individuals and we cannot leave it up to a few individuals to decide what the greater good is. [more...]

Are the American People Turning Against Big Government? Will Obamacare Hand Senate Control to the GOP or Will the Republicans Again Blow a Golden Opportunity?

As 2013 ends, have the American people begun to turn against big government? Are they more pessimistic about our future and achieving the American Dream? Is Obamacare going to hand Senate control to the GOP in 2014 or will the Republicans yet against swipe defeat from the jaws of victory? This and much more will be discussed by the POLITICAL INSIDERS live on Fox News Channel this Sunday evening – at our new time: 7:25 PM ET. [more...]

Honor Killings in the West and the God of Poetic Justice

On December 18th, the FBI offered a new reward of twenty thousand dollars for information leading to the capture of alleged honor/horror killing Egyptian-born father, Yaser Said. Two filmmakers, Xoel Pamus and Nenna Nejad, who are working on a documentary about the 2008 honor killing of Sarah and Amina Said in a suburb of Dallas, Texas, uncovered compelling evidence which they turned over to the authorities.

The West has been forced to take honor killings seriously. Earlier this month, the seventh honor killer involved in British-Kurdish Banaz Mahmud's 2006 murder was finally caught and jailed in Great Britain. (Honor killings are not like domestic violence in that an entire family of origin conspires to kill a young daughter for real or imagined disobedience.) Also in December, Sarbit Kaur Athwal, who testified against her British-Sikh honor killing family, won a prize for her bravery - "The Ultimate Woman Warrior award."

This month was also a milestone of sorts for me in this same area. One does not often get to experience redemptive justice on as grand a scale as I just have but this December that is precisely what happened. [more...]

Florida Orthodontist Continues Fight to Stop Delay of Obamacare Employer Mandate

Under the Affordable Care Act, Dr. Larry Kawa is a victim of his own success. Crossing the 50 employee mark puts Kawa Orthodontics on the receiving end of the federal health law’s more burdensome business regulations.

“We have a terrific staff with high moral,” Kawa told Watchdog.org. “But we employ over 50 full-time employees which means the (Obamacare) employer mandate does affect our business significantly.”
Under the law, businesses surpassing the 50 employee threshold are required to provide certain levels of insurance coverage as determined by the government. If an employer falls short, a penalty of $2,000 per employee is levied against the business.

But that’s not why Kawa decided to sue the federal government. [more...]

Is President Obama 'too big to jail?'

How lawless is the Obama administration? Many of the dirty deeds and scandals of Obama & Co. are public knowledge. Let's start with the most astonishing. Many citizens are aware that because of Obamacare, millions of Americans are losing their health care coverage. Is this incompetence, or criminal fraud?  One thing is certain: it would be fraud if a private sector CEO knew that millions of customers would lose their insurance, yet repeated the same lie over and over - "If you like your health insurance, you can keep it. Period." Why would we not hold a politician to the same standard? [more...]

Your Obamacare Insurance Policy: Now You See It, Now You Don’t

In what can only be described as another bizzare glitch, apparently the Obamacare Web site has been issuing phantom policies to thousands of honest hardworking Americans. Essentially the Web site was taking down all of your information, including your Social Security number and banking information, and then tells you that you have a health insurance policy. However, because of another Obamacare Web site glitch with what are known as "834 Transaction Forms," the troubled federal Web site never really recorded that you had purchased a health insurance policy. If the federal government doesn't have a record of your health insurance policy, guess what?  You don't have a health insurance policy. Even though you did everything right and purchased your Obamacare policy, they took away your policy when you thought you had it. Now you see it; now you don't. [more...] Watch Dr. Kawa on FBN

Santa is White

A young lady recently wrote a piece describing how Santa, being white, made her feel bad and alienated her from the other kids because she was black. Well, we can’t change the truth and no matter what, we will never make everyone feel good. A young child feels bad because she is black and Santa is white? Who taught her that white people can’t or don’t love blacks, Asians, brown skin, or whatever term you want to use? What a great way to keep racism alive in America. To coin a phrase from another well-known Joe, “what a bunch of malarkey!” [more...]

What does the Raul Castro handshake mean – both politically and in terms of the Obama foreign policy? Google: "Do No Evil"

The federal government is fighting Google in court related to the Foreign Information Surveillance Act Orders Google receives.  Google has filed for a Declaratory Judgment which would, in effect, explain what Google's first amendment rights are regarding national security-related requests for user data gathered by the mega corporation, including whether it is allowed to publish information regarding such requests. It's extraordinary to have giant corporations fighting for basic first amendment rights, especially in a society that is becoming more jaded about the rights of corporations to do as they please.  Privacy rights are of the utmost importance and we applaud these companies and organizations for standing up to the government on behalf of their users. Another Celebrity Sales Pitch for Obamacare

Last spring the White House managed to persuade a host of celebrities to go out and inject some stardust into an otherwise anemic Obamacare Web site.  Now Obamacare officials have responded with more celebrity carnival barking. This time the program is being referred to as the "Tell a friend, get covered" campaign.  The new effort includes daily messages from current pop figures and is designed to encourage friends to speak to fellow buds about the benefits of health insurance.

The administration has brought in People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive, singer Adam Levine, to kick off the new public relations initiative via the social media. "We don’t think that, by seeing a tweet, suddenly millions of people will go get coverage," Anne Filipic, president of Enroll America, told Bloomberg News. "Adam Levine’s tweet helps us begin, and then we can have a substantive conversation about what's available."

Adding to all of this are the findings of a recent poll by Harvard's Institute of Politics, which indicate that millennials have soured on the idea of the Affordable Care Act being beneficial for them. According to the poll, less than one-third of uninsured 18 to 29-year-olds are likely to enroll in Obamacare.

Apparently, the same people who delivered a lousy Web site tampered with the doctor-patient relationship, and caused cancellation letters to be sent out to millions are now placing their hopes in a modified hashtag, rap video, and the "Sexiest Man Alive." [more...]

Jobs Report is Fraud, Greatest Ponzi Scheme in History Continues

I am a small businessman at "ground zero." I don’t need Obama, the Fed, economists, or the media to tell me how the economy is doing. I live it. And I’m telling you, we’re all being lied to. The economy is not getting better, it’s getting worse. Back in late 2007 and early 2008, I publicly predicted (numerous times) that we were entering the deepest recession since the 1929 Great Depression. At the exact moment I wrote about this, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke was testifying in front of Congress that the economy was fine, we were not in recession, and there was little threat of a serious economic decline. It turned out he was dead wrong about everything. A small businessman always knows. [more...]

Disenfranchised and Duped by Obamacare

It is no longer about the content of one's character. It is now about winning at all costs. How else can the blind and dogged devotion of Progressives to Obamacare be explained? The architects have admitted that the law is inherently unfair. It creates a two-tiered system that benefits the wealthy and privileged friends and relegates the poor, the middle-class and the disenfranchised to an inferior healthcare system devoid of quality doctors in which the 'unlucky' ones who can't afford it will be locked out of medical centers of excellence like Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and MD Anderson, stuck paying higher costs for medication, and paying more as if it is a privilege. Obamacare: A Century-Long Campaign

Government control of health care has long been the central goal of the progressive project. The idea can be traced back to the efforts of the American Association of Labor Legislation. Around 1915, the AALL established the progressive narrative that Europe had enlightened social welfare policy, whereas the U.S. was benighted, uncompassionate and politically unsophisticated because we did not emulate Europe's emerging government-funded health insurance schemes. On Nov. 14, during what was called his "mea culpa" press conference, President Obama referenced the roots of the progressive struggle when he said: "It took a hundred years for us to even get to the point where we could start talking about and implementing a law to make sure everybody got health insurance." The century-long campaign to which he referred, however, was about more than universal health insurance. [more...]

Government Claus

One of the Saint Nicholas impersonators of our time are progressives, many of whom disdain God but, paradoxically, all believe fervently in Santa Claus, in the form of government with never-ending free goodies it can give away without any negative economic or social consequences. The reality is that everything government gives away, it must first take from somebody else - past, present or future. America now has only 101 million full-time workers, the lowest percentage working since President Jimmy Carter, yet we have 108 million people receiving means-tested welfare benefits from our fast-growing Santa Claus welfare state. Check out Lowell's new book, "The Great Withdrawal." [more...]

Detroit Bankruptcy Approved

As predicted for many months, Detroit’s bankruptcy filing has been validated in a ruling by bankruptcy court Judge Steven Rhodes. He rejected numerous objections posed by unions, pension funds and retirees. They’re the big losers under any reorganization plan that scales back Detroit’s long-term liabilities. The decision, which will be appealed, will eventually allow the city to proceed with what is currently the largest public bankruptcy in U.S. history. Rhodes said, “This once proud and prosperous city can’t pay its debts. It’s insolvent. It’s eligible for bankruptcy. At the same time, it also has an opportunity for a fresh start.” He said the bankruptcy should have been done years earlier. [more...]

A Godless Church

Reports indicate that Westboro Baptist Church plans to picket "Fast & Furious" star, Paul Walker’s upcoming funeral. Mr. Walker was recently killed in a car crash near my home.  This church claims to be a Christian organization acting on God’s behalf. Instead, it is full of hate, un-forgiveness and spitefulness. Westboro Baptist members hate everyone that they decide isn't living right. If Paul Walker was the person people say he was, then he was doing what God asked him to do. And if you don’t believe in God, then he was doing the right thing for his fellow man. If more people would show the love of God the way Mr. Walker did maybe God would not get such a bad rap. Don’t let phonies like Westboro Baptist Church distract you from doing good things to help other people. [more...]

UAW Becoming Desperate?

Recent actions by the UAW demonstrate the desperation of the labor bosses to reverse declining membership. From a peak of 1.52 million in 1979, the UAW today represents fewer than 400,000. Obviously, the UAW realizes they are in serious trouble, but instead of changing tactics and providing a service that benefits employers and members alike, as their counterparts in Germany do, they continue to utilize the same bullying tactics that have gotten them into trouble. What's the definition of "insanity?" Doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results! It appears insanity and desperation have become entrenched in big labor. [more...]

Report: Texas School 'Winter' Party Bans Red, Green and Christmas Trees

At Nichols Elementary, the colors red, green and Christmas trees are banned from the school's "winter party," as are any references to Christmas or any other religious holiday, according to Fox 4. Santa would be wise to avoid this secular progressive burg this year. State Rep. Pat Fallon isn't happy about the development because, he says, a state law was passed actually allowing students and employees to say "Merry Christmas," "Happy Hanukkah" and "Happy Holidays." "We’re celebrating Christmas, so why can’t it be a Christmas party or maybe a holiday party?" Fallon told the news station. "But they've skipped over ‘holiday’ and go to ‘winter.’ That’s political correctness gone too far." [more...]

Stanford Professor: We Can Now Eavesdrop on the Brain

Recent concerns over privacy have primarily centered on surveillance, data mining and digital profiles that are being conducted by the U.S. government and segments of the private sector. However, a new kind of technology is steadily emerging and it is one that may seriously jeopardize a privacy component considered to be self-evident - the right to our own personal thoughts.

Science fiction films and television shows are replete with references to authoritarian dictatorships that have employed technology to ascertain the thinking processes and personal reflections of individuals within the populace. Perhaps the definitive work that deals with the provocative subject, George Orwell’s dystopian novel “Nineteen Eighty-Four,” describes the presence of countless telescreens, which are devices that allow the government to determine whether individuals hold unspoken views that question the ruling party or stand in opposition to authorities. Why are America and the West Funding Sharia Law?

President Hamid Karzai’s government is considering bringing back stoning for adultery - and imposing 100 lashes (which is a death sentence) for unmarried people who have had sexual relations.  Thus, Afghan men can marry female children, keep male children as sex-toys, maintain four wives, and visit prostitutes from dawn to dawn.  But it is a capital crime if an Afghan man dishonors another Afghan man by having relations with his female "property;" and, if he has raped the poor wife, she is also to be stoned.  Why are America and the West funding such a country which is so clearly headed back towards the darkest days of the Taliban in the 1980s and to the even darker days of the bitter battles between warlords which massacred so many innocent civilians in the 1990s? Do Americans really believe that we can wean the Sunni Afghans from gender and religious apartheid? [more... ]

Voter Fraud? What about Election Fraud?

Voter fraud has been in the news a lot lately.  A number of party leaders and politicians are concerned that without stronger voter ID laws in place, one person can go to several different polling places pretending to be different people, voting several times.  A non-citizen could pretend to be a citizen and cast a vote.  Some fear voter fraud could even be an organized effort of a political group, with a busload of people going from polling place to polling place casting a number of fraudulent votes.  Thirty states have voter ID laws in place, but a number of states have implemented or are considering implementing tougher laws requiring voters to show picture IDs of a limited kind.  For example, a driver's license, gun permits, and other government issued IDs, but often not student IDs. Evangelical Atheists?

The season of festivities at this time of year would not exist if it weren't for some religious belief system. Most religions “evangelize” because they want others to know about what they believe and why.  Evangelize means “to try to convert (a group or area) to a different religion (especially Christianity) – often used figuratively.”  This year, atheists have launched a concerted campaign, setting up booths at craft fairs and in parks sharing their non-holiday message.  The Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF) (who I lovingly refer to as the Freedom from Religion Freaks), in their fight against religion, is selling a variety of greeting cards for “winter solstice.” [more...]

Same Old SEIU, Same Tired Attacks

Never a group to let an opportunity go to waste, the SEIU planned to disrupt travelers at major airports all over the country and to attack retailers such as Wal-Mart during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Their plotting is all in the name of "social justice," which is no more than a code name for forced unionism. The SEIU would have you believe that it has the best interest of employees at heart, and that employers like Wal-Mart "abuse" their employees through the payment of poverty wages, while lining their own pockets with the company profits.  In fact, this past week, the SEIU sent out the following e-mail to its members stating that Wal-Mart pays such low wages its employees cannot afford a Thanksgiving dinner.  Therefore, Wal-Mart hosted a food drive so they could eat on Thanksgiving. Will the Time Magazine Person of the Year Be Miley Cyrus?

What do Vladimir Putin, Edward Snowden, Ted Cruz, Benjamin Netanyahu, John Boehner, Chris Christie, Kathleen Sebelius, and Pope Francis have in common? All of these notables are trailing behind Miley Cyrus in a poll for Time Magazine’s 2013 "Person of the Year."

A bizarre choice for Time's "Person of the Year," Cyrus is a former Disney Channel star who seems to have done her best over the last several months to annihilate the wholesome image of her "Hannah Montana" character. She has catapulted her way into the news headlines with a form of lewd dancing called twerking. She gained infamy for her crass appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards in which her vulgar choreography and giant finger prop offended many who were watching as well as those who saw the replay.
