On
Monday the U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) issued its decision in the matter of
Harris v. Quinn. In its decision not to exempt all public workers from paying
union dues, it was nevertheless apparent that workers were handed a victory
over unions. In a 5-4 ruling following political lines, SCOTUS affirmed that
just because home healthcare workers received Medicaid payments they were not
employees of a government agency and subject to forced unionism or required to
pay dues because of supposed union representation. The irony of this is that
many of the home healthcare workers are independent contractors, not state
workers, who have been forced to pay forced union dues because of the SEIU's
close political ties to former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. It
could have been much worse for organized labor if SCOTUS had determined, as it
should have, that no public employees should be forced to be part of the union
or pay union affiliation/representation fees. Due to the narrow ruling, Big
Labor was able to Dodge a Bullet with SCOTUS.

Hillary
Clinton - The Mitt Romney of 2016
Since
becoming the first lady of the United States in 1993, Hillary Clinton has lived
an illustrious life that most Americans will never get the benefit of
experiencing. Although revered by many for her outstanding resume, New York's
first female Senator and Former Secretary of State has recently suffered a
disconnect with voters. Hillary is often considered to be out of touch to the
working class American. Many view her as an elitist, contrary to her husband
who was adored by the public due to his convincing "everyday
American" manner. Fifty-five percent of voters believe that Hillary is
experienced and qualified enough to handle the presidency. However, like Mitt
Romney, the public isn't convinced they can trust her. More voters have doubts
about her trustworthiness than those who believe she is honest and will work
for the common man. [more...]

The
search for the three abducted Israeli teenagers, Eyal Yifrach, Gilad Shaar, and
Naftali Frenkel (who held Israeli and American citizenship), ended on June 30th
with the grisly discovery of their bodies in a shallow grave near the West Bank
city of Hebron. They were found by civilian volunteers from an Israeli field
school in the area, who alerted Israeli security forces. The boys appeared to
have been shot, perhaps shortly after the abrupt ending of a cell phone call
from one of the teens in which he said, "I was kidnapped." Cartridges
of bullets were found in the burnt out vehicle that was determined to be the
car carrying the kidnapped teens. [more...]
