Refugees in America
An Economic Burden or a Potential Boon?
An Economic Burden or a Potential Boon?
According to the BBC, the UK government’s pledge to re-settle some 20,000 Syrians by 2020 will cost half a billion pounds with officials conceding that the cost is “huge.” The refugee crisis is said to have played a crucial role in the EU referendum vote back in June and Britain’s ultimate decision to “Leave” the European Union after over forty years. This year alone the Canadian commitment to refugee resettlement will end up costing Canadian taxpayers close to $1 billion as reported by Huffington Post Canada, where monthly assistance stipends barely cover affordable housing, food, clothing and language courses. In the United States, President Obama has pledged that the US will take up to 10,000 refugees by the end of 2016 and has left the door open to accept up to 100,000 more in fiscal year 2017, far beyond the worldwide cap. So what is the potential impact of tens of thousands of new Syrian immigrants on an already fragile US economy? That depends upon who you ask. [more...]
Trouble
in Rio
We
are days away from the opening ceremonies of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in
Rio de Janeiro; and in contrast to the games’ athletes who appear to be in top
form, Rio is far from prepared. From filthy water to safety concerns to
frustration from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the city’s signs of
instability overshadow the excitement for the quadrennial competition. According
to a 16-month study commissioned by the Associated Press, Rio’s water is
teeming with viruses and bacteria. Seeing levels of virus this high is unheard
of in the U.S. because we treat our waste water. The study suggests that
ingesting just 3 teaspoons of Rio’s filthy water is enough to make a person
violently ill. This is a major concern not only for Olympic swimmers (let’s
pray the pool water is sanitary), but for the expected half-a-million tourists
and foreigners attending the games. At this point, we can only hope to avoid an
epidemic. [more...]
The Media Hates Trump
Although I honor the Muslim soldier for dying for this
country, what does his sad death twelve long years ago have to do with the 2016
election, or my day-to-day concerns as a business owner and taxpayer? The correct answer
is nothing. This was a trap - a media WMD - "weapon of mass
distraction." This was a brilliant set-up to distract the voters and to
destroy Trump’s momentum. Trump fell for it, and it worked (in the short term).
But what’s truly amazing is the magnitude of the media conspiracy. [more...]
General
Allen’s Service to Al Qaeda’s Paymasters
After
two American soldiers were murdered by an Islamic terrorist in Afghanistan
while a crowd of protesters shouted “Death to Americans” and “Death to Infidels,”
General Allen visited his men. “There will be moments like this when
you’re searching for the meaning of this loss. There will be moments like this
when your emotions are governed by anger and a desire to strike back,” Allen
pleaded. “Now is not the time for revenge, now is not the time for vengeance.” General Allen had already apologized
to the killers for the “desecration” of the Koran by American soldiers who had
been destroying copies of the hateful document being used by Taliban prisoners
to send notes to each other. "I offer my sincere apologies for any offence
this may have caused, to the president of Afghanistan, the government of the
Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and most importantly, to the noble people of
Afghanistan," he had whined. The “noble people” of Afghanistan were the
ones chanting “Death to America” and “Death to Infidels.” [more...]
Obama’s
Ransom Payment to an Outlaw Regime
By
Joseph
Klein
Under
the headline “U.S. Sent Cash to Iran as
Americans Were Freed,” the Wall
Street Journal reported on August 3rd the secret transport to Iran of 400
million in euros and other non-U.S. dollar currencies at around the same time
that five American hostages held captive were released by the Iranian regime. The
Obama administration insists that it was all just a coincidence. It was only “paying off the first installment of a $1.7
billion settlement of Iranian claims before the Iran-US Claims Tribunal in The
Hague,” arising from a failed arms deal that had preceded the overthrow
of the Shah. There was no quid pro quo or ransom paid to get our hostages back,
claims the administration. Everyone else with an ounce of common sense knows
the truth – the Obama administration violated the long-held policy of the U.S.
not to pay ransom or make other concessions to hostage takers in order to
procure the release of the prisoners detained unlawfully by Iran. [more...]
