Law
Profs and Economists Oppose Global Corporate Courts in TPP
In
a significant development, over 200 law and economics professors across the U.S.
oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) treaty and the TransAtlantic Trade
and Investment Partnership (TTIP) because they grant new power to foreign
corporations to sue the U.S. outside the regular court system. Their letter is
significant not only in number of signatories, but also for the very articulate
rationale. They compare the relatively lawless super-tribunals created by the TPP
with the justice and democracy principles of the U.S. court system that
"the rest of us" rely upon. The technocratically titled
Investor-State Dispute Settlement system in the TPP does not balance public and
private interests, does not respect democratic policy judgments, and does not
ensure that arbitors do not unduly interfere with state law and policy among
other things. [more...]
Will
Clinton’s Health Impact the Election?
Clinton’s
health is now the biggest issue in this presidential election campaign. In my latest
book Great News
for America, I predicted that the 2016 presidential election
would be an historic and critical presidential election. That certainly is
true. In fact, we are watching it before our eyes. In an unusual turn of
events, Clinton’s health has skyrocketed to the top of the issues list. There
is little doubt that this might turn out to be a pivotal turning point in the
election. Is this the October surprise? What will happen to the polls now?
Will Clinton drop out of the race? Will Joe Biden, John Kerry, Tim Kaine or
Bernie Sanders replace Hillary Clinton? [more...]

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch
(R-UT), who is essentially the Senate spokesman for the pharmaceutical
industry, is now floating the idea that 12 years market exclusivity for
biologic drugs could be attained on the honor system with
amenable TPP partner countries. He proposed that such an agreement is workable
because “honorable countries will live up to it.” [more...]
The
Art of Storytelling and Box-Office Magic
By
James
Hirsen
The
most successful movies in the history of film generally share the great story
components found in time-honored literature, those being, among others, the
following: plots contain clear central premises, central characters are
well-developed and multi-dimensional, protagonists are on quests, antagonists
attempt to foil protagonists plans, and conflict and resolution play out in a
palpable rhythm. These essential great story elements are alive and well in the
films that are presently paying Hollywood’s bills. The top three films of the
2016 summer account for more than 25 percent of the total box office: Disney’s
“Finding Dory,” Disney’s “Captain America: Civil War,” and Universal’s “The
Secret Life of Pets,” all exhibiting storytelling at its best. [more...]
Left
Pot Calling the Kettle Black
By

The
Left continues to accuse Trump and the Right with horrendous allegations that
they are the elitists, haters of average Americans, haters of refugees or
immigrants, and haters of women. Elitists? Racists? Really? In the e-mails released around
the Democrat National Convention (DNC) along with the many posts showing what
DNC staffers say about the more socio-economically challenged Americans, they
must have been talking about themselves. [more...]
Is
Hillary Out?
On
Sunday, Hillary Clinton struggled walking after she left the 9/11 memorial
ceremony early. This was not a good look for the leading Presidential
candidate, as concerns about her health have resurfaced. Businesses face
similar challenges when it comes to health. Should a company replace its
longstanding and experienced CEO with a younger and healthier executive? Should
companies build for success with a perishing genius or with a vibrant prodigy?
We all know with age comes wisdom and experience, but at what point does the
health of tenured executives become a real cause for concern? We don’t have a
blueprint for making these difficult decisions; however, we can all use our
bright business minds to assess which of the Presidential candidates is best
fit for the job. [more...]
Is
Hillary Crumbling? Has Trump Flattened Out?
Is
Trump surging – or Hillary sinking – or both? Where does the Presidential race
now stand? Did NBC’s Commander-in-Chief Forum help – or hurt – the candidates
as they prepare for the crucial September 26 debate? This – and much more –
will be discussed by the POLITICAL
INSIDERS – live - on Fox News Channel this Sunday evening – at 7:30 PM
ET. [more...]
