Omar's 'Blame the Accountant' Alibi Won't Add Up

By Michael Levine, Public Relations Expert, Author of Authentic PR

Rep. Ilhan Omar's explanation for major discrepancies in her financial disclosures will fail the public credibility test.

A watchdog group has urged the House Ethics Committee to obtain Omar’s financial records after the Office of Congressional Conduct voted 5-1 to recommend dismissing its investigation. This story will not disappear because a committee wishes it away. In public relations, unanswered questions don't shrink; they grow teeth. Omar needs documents, details and complete transparency. Anything less will look like evasion, and voters can smell evasion from a mile away. [more...]

Left's Push to Delay Deporting Illegal-Migrant Criminals Imposes Huge Costs on Taxpayers

By John Lott, President of the Crime Prevention Research Center

Much of today's deportation debate centers on the question of who should count as "criminals" to be immediately sent back to their home countries - with anti-deportation advocates ignoring the huge cost of delay. The Department of Homeland Security claims that 70% of illegal aliens have been convicted or charged with a crime (beyond the immigration violation). At a minimum expense of $150,000 per case, prosecuting all 248,000 would run taxpayers $37.2 billion. At $600,000 or more per case, the total would exceed $148.8 billion. The liberal and libertarian advocates offer no good justification for forcing taxpayers to spend such vast sums - again, at least hundreds of thousands of dollars per illegal immigrant - when the government already has legal authority to deport every one of them. What in the World Should We Do About AI?

By Todd Sheets, Investment Banker, Economist, Author of 2008: What Really Happened

This past week, a 27-year-old researcher at Anthropic quit his job in protest over fear that leading AI companies aren’t doing enough to contain the risks of their rapidly emerging frontier models.  After his departure, a senior executive at the company seconded his concerns and added that he sees a 10% chance AI will wipe out mankind. Within a short time, the on-line post from the young researcher went viral and sparked a fire in the political tinderbox that had begun to form around AI. My thinking on AI has not changed since I first wrote about it. First of all, don’t panic.  Many of the doomsayers are the same people who, not that long ago, were predicting that AI would soon create massive unemployment.  So far, the evidence shows that just the opposite is happening.  [more...] MORE from Todd: The Midterms are a Referendum

If a Nuclear Bomb Hits Your City Tomorrow, Your Evacuation Plan Will Kill You

By Geoffrey Simmons, Community Emergency Response Team, Author of OPPENHEIMER'S DEMON: Nuclear Terror... and the Race to Save a City

Our nation's major metropolitan areas have detailed community response plans for hurricanes, forest fires, and other natural disasters. But in my decades in the field, I have noticed a worrisome gap: pre-disaster community planning for a nuclear event such as a terrorist plot. To fill several gaps in our current level of readiness, the federal government's old civil defense plans, terminated in 1994, need to be resurrected and modernized. Community Emergency Response Teams classes, overseen by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, need to be mandatory in schools. Depending on the community, voluntary participation is not nearly enough. First step: Visit ready.gov and prepare a go bag. [more...]

House Ways & Means Committee Hearing Suggests Critical Minerals Partners Should Get Special Tariff Treatment

By Kenneth Rapoza, Reporter/Columnist for Coalition for a Prosperous America

A recent House Ways & Means Committee hearing on critical minerals had both members and witnesses suggesting that countries the U.S. relies on for these hard-to-mine, harder-to-process minerals be granted trade preferences. That included the possibility of extending the African Growth and Opportunities Act (AGOA) for at least 10 years, granting Kazakhstan permanent normal trade relations, and eliminating the downstream Section 232 metals tariffs to import finished product from Africa. The latter would be highly unpopular with domestic metals producers. [more...]

The W-2 War is Over - Welcome to the 1099 Battlefield

By Kerry Lutz, Founder of the Financial Survival Network, Economist

While cable news commentators scramble to decode the latest Iranian missile salvos, the foreign-policy establishment has reached for its favorite analytical tool: a historical comparison that sounds impressive until you examine it. The comparison du jour is the Tet Offensive. The theory is that Iran is repeating North Vietnam's 1968 strategy - launching a dramatic wave of attacks designed less to achieve a military victory than to break America's political will. It is an interesting comparison. It is also wrong. Tet worked because North Vietnam was a unified country backed by two superpowers and fighting an America that had placed hundreds of thousands of its own troops directly in the line of fire. Iran faces a very different opponent operating under a very different model of warfare. The easiest way to understand it is to forget military jargon for a moment and think about the difference between a W-2 employee and a 1099 contractor. [more...]

China AI Deal Will Work as Well as Nuke Deals Did with USSR

By Daniel Greenfield, CEO of the David Horowitz Freedom Center

Anyone calling for a Chinese AI deal is a useful idiot or a traitor.

The hysteria over AI in political circles is clearly a Chinese op which is why Bernie Sanders is promoting a conference with Chinese AI 'safety experts' and is now rallying with Bannon against AI. Hillary Clinton has now joined in, urging an AI deal with China. Let's be clear, an AI deal with China (or any deal with China) is as worthless as the old nuke deals with the USSR were. Communists don't honor deals. China especially doesn't honor deals. There hasn't been one agreement of any significance with the U.S. that Communist China has honored in good faith. [more...]
