Corporate Tax Reform Should Benefit Domestic Companies

As tax reform becomes a major focus in Washington, Congress faces a unique opportunity to fix a situation that has long favored multinational corporations at the expense of U.S. companies. Doing so could level the playing field for American companies while also delivering an extra $1 trillion in tax revenue over the next decade. Currently, domestic American corporations are required to pay U.S. taxes on all of their worldwide income. In a rather unfair contrast, however, multinational firms are only required to pay taxes on foreign income after their profits are brought into the United States. Unfortunately, taxation on “foreign” profits can be avoided for decades because large companies can still use the money without appearing to return it to the U.S. [more...]

The Business Toll of Taking a Knee

A once great institution is literally in the process of destroying itself. For the longest time the National Football League was the top drawing sport on television. Now it looks as though it is willingly abdicating its ratings throne. In the season just prior to the current one, 34 of the top 40 televised sports games were NFL football match-ups. Come the fall of 2017, however, the NFL’s popularity took a severe hit and so, too, did the league’s bottom line. Regarding the current season, TV ratings have declined almost 20 percent, while the television networks have reportedly lost as much as 500 million in advertising dollars. [more...]

Our Need for Breeding

America now has the lowest fertility rate in its history. Each couple must on average give birth to at least 2.1 children just to maintain a nation’s population. In America today, fertility has plummeted to 1.8 children per couple, a decline that if continued will cause economic and demographic doom, as is happening in Europe and Japan. The Millennials – Generation Y born from around 1984 to 2000 – are the reason, according to a 2017 study. [more...]

‘Every Female in the Press Corps Knew’ About Conyers

A sizable chunk of the press corps knew about Congressman Conyers. They knew about it for years. And while they were trumpeting their anti-Bush and anti-Trump pieces, they said nothing. "Don’t get in the elevator with him, you know, ... every female in the press corps knew that, right, don’t get in elevator with him," said Cokie Roberts. Roberts is political royalty. And, as usual, nothing was said. And now she's acting as if the belated revelation is an act of courage, instead of a disgraceful and belated effort. [more...]

On the latest edition of REVOLUTION_The Podcast... We analyze President Trump's surprise endorsement of GOP candidate Roy Moore in the Alabama special Senate election: Why did he do it? What is the risk? Will it push Moore to victory - or cost the GOP women voters in this race and the 2018 mid-terms? What of the sexual scandals? Are there more to come? Al Franken’s Future

It is highly likely that, under the circumstances, SNL alumni/U.S. Senator Al Franken has submitted himself to an ethics probe because it has historically provided a shield to members of Congress who have been accused of corrupt or abusive behavior. Such an investigation opens up a path for the accused legislator to nurture the image of cooperation while slowing any pending resignation demands. Point of fact: Franken has already been asked by members of his own party to resign. The rules of the ethics committee were written by politicians and seem to have been designed to assist those embroiled in scandal. [more...]

The Return of Morality in Politics

The Atlantic’s Caitlin Flanagan writes that feminists who rushed to defend Bill Clinton in the 1990s were “on the wrong side of history.” A chorus of other Democrats and progressives agree that this immoral ex-president and others deserve to be condemned now. Is this genuine contrition or pragmatic politics? Democrats now recognize that they cannot credibly charge sexual misbehavior against Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore while refusing to condemn their own such as Bill Clinton or current Democratic Senators Bob Menendez and Al Franken. [more...]

Strong Post-Brexit Outlook for UK Economy

On Oct. 31st, the Times ran a doom-and-gloom story entitled “What’s the Economic Cost of Brexit?” The reporter quoted economists and others bemoaning the alleged “uncertainty” caused by Britain’s decision to pull out of the European Union by March 2019. Like the witches in a Shakespeare play, British economists have been offended that the electorate ignored their dire warnings and have sought to cast a spell over the economy ever since June 2016. Yet despite the constant drumbeat of gloomy forecasts, political disunity in Westminster, sudden departures from Theresa May’s Cabinet, and the growing difficulty of negotiating a post-Brexit trade agreement, the British economy, and, in particular, its manufacturing sector, is actually doing better than ever. [more...]

The Hotel from Leftist Hell

The world’s first leftist anti-Trump hotel is here. You won’t be surprised to learn that it’s opening in Washington, D.C. (with additional locations in Seattle, Hong Kong and San Francisco). And you’ll be even less surprised to hear that it’s a luxury hotel with organic mattresses and crystal healing. Instead of a Bible, there’ll be a United Nations pamphlet. The minibar will have an activist toolkit. Staffers will be hired for their commitment to leftist social justice. (That’s technically discrimination, but it’s not as if leftists live by the laws they impose on the rest of us.) [more...]

Moore GOP Trouble?

On the latest edition of REVOLUTION_The Podcast... We explore how the accusations against Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore have the potential to spread nationally to the Republican Party and ultimately to President Trump. The gender gap, the Trump Administration's disproportionate appointment of 80% men to federal jobs and last week's election results all portend trouble in 2018 for the GOP. Meanwhile Special Counsel Robert Mueller moves ahead while President Trump and Fox try to convince a skeptical Attorney General Jeff Sessions to appoint a Special Counsel to explore Hillary Clinton and Uranium One. [more...]

No Trade Deals in Trump Asia Trip?

The chattering class was expressing worry and apprehension about the administration’s trade policy once again last week. Why, they asked, is Trump not negotiating trade deals with China during his recent trip through Asia? The answer is that any negotiations would have been a fruitless waste of time and a distraction. Instead, the U.S. should act unilaterally to fix its trade problems just as China acted unilaterally on its road to economic dominance. It is important to understand that trade agreements have very little correlation with increased prosperity. China rose through a strategic economic nationalism plan which included a mix of currency undervaluation, massive subsidies, intellectual property theft and a series of 5-year economic plans. Japan and South Korea grew from poor countries to relative prosperity through their own version of strategic economic plans implemented unilaterally. The U.S. government needs a similar plan to resign from its status as the “importer of last resort” for the rest of the world’s overproduction. [more...]

The Left Continues Misleading Arguments in Support of Their “Police Target Blacks” Theme

We have commented before on the political left’s continued efforts to characterize law enforcement as racist. In the face of FBI reports and statistics to the contrary, they continue to present arguments to support their debunked and dubious theories. One of their misleading tactics is to focus on the disproportionate impact of the U.S. criminal justice system on African Americans. It’s proof, they suggest, of systemic racism in law enforcement. The claim is lazy, pointing out that blacks, while only 13 percent of the population, represent far higher proportions of incarcerated subjects. And the fact that black subjects are stopped by police at disproportionate rates is, to the left, simply more proof of the corruption and racism. Liberals continue misleading arguments in support of their “police target blacks” theme. They refer to the false Ferguson mantra of “Hands up, don’t shoot” when Michael Brown was killed by Officer Wilson and to other shootings by police. The truth is more whites are killed by police than are blacks. [more...]

The Trump Charm Offensive

For the “Never Trumpers,” it’s hard to admit, but there is a charming side to our commander in chief. His recent overseas Asian trip was proof that it not only exists, but it’s very effective. He seems to have taken Asia by storm. Remember, it was not long ago that the Chinese refused to roll out the stairs, let alone the red carpet, forcing Obama to do a humiliating exit from the belly of Air Force One. And now, just a few short years later, Trump is exiting from the stairs to a red carpet reception. And his Chinese nicknames, “Donald the Strong,” “Grand Commander Uncle Trump“ are good indicators of his popularity. I don’t remember the Chinese referring to “Barrack the Invincible.” [more...]

Sessions Replaces the Left with the Rule of Law

The rule of law didn’t exist under Obama. But now it’s coming back. Attorney General Sessions began his remarks before the House Judiciary Committee by declaring that the rule of law "forms the foundation for our liberty, our safety, and our prosperity. In this rule of law, we are blessed beyond all nations." And he summarized what he had been doing in less than a year to restore the rule of law to America. [more...]

U.S. Navy’s New Show of Force

The three U.S. Navy carrier strike groups’ presence is useful in reminding North Korea that the U.S. can still project punishing power across the Pacific in a relatively short period of time.  I do not agree that this is the Navy’s worst nightmare.  The nightmare would turn real if another crisis emerged simultaneously at some other place that required large carrier-borne fighters/bombers, for example in the East Mediterranean and/or the Persian Gulf.  Otherwise, the three carrier strike groups in the West Pacific are a reminder of exactly why the U.S. needs to remain the world’s dominant seapower.  It would be better if these carriers airwings had been trained for integrated, rather than sequential, operations.  And this should serve as a reminder that integrated carrier operations are one possible alternative than keeping a single carrier on patrol in each of the world’s hotspots. Read: Seablindness: How Political Neglect is Choking American Seapower and What to Do About It, by Fmr. Deputy Undersecretary of the U.S. Navy Seth Cropsey.

The Missing Trillion Dollars in the Republican Tax Reform Plan

The Republican tax reform plan is suffering from a shortage of funds. Yet Paul Ryan and his colleagues are trying to give the American people a substantial tax cut as their signature achievement of 2017. However, they are constrained by Congressional rules that limit increases in the federal budget deficit to just $1.4 trillion over 10 years. As a result, the plan is peppered with small-bore cutbacks to tax deductions and other maneuvers that make the plan seem small-minded and miserly. Thankfully, there is one potentially large tax reform that could bring in a whopping $1 trillion, and empower the Ways and Means Committee to be truly generous with the American middle class. [more...]

Why Judge Moore’s Supporters Remain Loyal

Despite the avalanche of recent coverage by the mainstream media over allegations against Judge Roy Moore, Alabama voters are not buying into reports that center on his purported distant past. Television reporter Lauren Walsh was unable to find a single local resident who believed the Post report. “Out of all the voters we spoke with..., we didn’t find one voter who believed the Washington Post report about Moore,” Walsh stated. Meanwhile CNN conducted its own research on the attitudes of Judge Moore’s supporters and was forced to print the results of its inquiry of approximately a dozen Alabamians who diminished or outright dismissed the Post’s story. Will Protesters Silence Our National Anthem?

Even facing a huge boycott by viewers on Veterans Day, the NFL league office refused to change its policy that allowed players to protest by not standing respectfully during the traditional playing of America’s national anthem. Some players who take a knee, link arms, or otherwise show disrespect want to make an ideological protest against what they see as American society, from police behavior to the nation as a whole. Other players – average NFL salary $2.44 million – apparently see the enormous media attention Colin Kaepernick is given in the liberal media for his protests and want such national attention and fame for themselves. Fame and name recognition beget more and more money. They seem eager to step on the flag and anthem in an infantile “Look at Me” publicity stunt, perhaps because most are mediocre players like Kaepernick. [more...]

Students for Genocide in Houston: Protesters Interrupt David Horowitz Speech at the University of Houston

U. Houston Was Recently Named to List of “Top Ten Worst Schools that Support Terrorists,” Hosted 2017 SJP National Conference
About 100 angry student protesters supporting the Hamas-funded and Hamas-guided campus organization Students for Justice in Palestine staged a loud and disruptive walkout of David Horowitz’s November 2nd speech at the University of Houston.  Horowitz is the founder of the California-based David Horowitz Freedom Center and his speech, which was sponsored by the Young America’s Foundation, focused on “The Terror Network on American Campuses.”
The protestors carried Palestinian flags and a sign stating “Black Lives Matter.” During the walkout, which took several minutes, they attempted to shout down Horowitz, making it impossible to hear his words. The protestors chanted, “David, we reject your presence on our campus” and “Zionists off our campus, Islamphobes: off our campus.” A video of the protestors attempting to derail Horowitz’s speech may be viewed here.
The David Horowitz Freedom Center recently named the University of Houston to its new report on the “Top Ten Worst Schools that Support Terrorists.” Coinciding with the release, the Freedom Center placed posters on the Houston campus exposing the links between Students for Justice in Palestine and the terrorist organization Hamas, whose stated goal is the destruction of the Jewish state and the annihilation of its Jews. The University of Houston hosted the Students for Justice in Palestine National Conference on October 27-29, 2017, an event that has become notorious for its secrecy and for anti-Semitic speakers who support anti-Israel terrorism.
As was revealed in recent congressional testimony, Students for Justice in Palestine is a campus front for Hamas terrorists. SJP’s propaganda activities are orchestrated and funded by a Hamas front group, American Muslims for Palestine, whose chairman is Hatem Bazian, is a founder of Students for Justice in Palestine, and whose principals are former officers of the Holy Land Foundation and other Islamic “charities” previously convicted of funneling money to Hamas. Hamas is a State Department-designated terrorist organization whose explicit goals, as stated in its charter, are the destruction of the Jewish state, and the extermination of its Jews.
“Students for Justice in Palestine together with other student organizations such as the Muslim Students Association, and Jewish Voice for Peace have formed a coalition to spread Hamas propaganda,” explained Freedom Center founder David Horowitz. “This propaganda effort was designed to destroy the Jewish state, annihilate the Jewish people, and fan the flames of hatred for America as Israel’s ‘protector.’ Their mission—aided by funding and organizational support from Hamas—is to whitewash actual terrorist attacks and promote the genocidal lies of terrorist organizations in order to weaken the Jewish state, deny it legitimacy, and ultimately destroy it.”
“American universities like the University of Houston provide cover and financial support for these terrorist agents, allowing them to provide propaganda that advances Hamas’s genocidal agendas,” Horowitz continued. “It is disgraceful that President Khator and the University of Houston should provide cover and financial support for these terrorist agents, allowing them to spread propaganda lies that advance Hamas’s genocidal agendas.”
The Freedom Center posters placed on Houston’s campus contained the hashtag #StopUniversitySupportforTerrorists. They were torn down by university authorities who have turned their backs on the First Amendment and the very idea of free speech. Images of the posters that appeared at Houston and other campuses may be viewed at www.stopuniversitysupportforterrorists.org.
The David Horowitz Freedom Center, founded in 1988, is a not-for-profit organization located in Sherman Oaks, California. The Center’s mission is to defend free societies like America and Israel, which are under attack by totalitarians both religious and secular, domestic and foreign.

How Washington Helps the Rich and Hurts the Poor

In my new book, The False Promise of Big Government, I reveal the right argument against big government. Progressives have created a massive and intrusive federal government by repeating this mantra: big government is necessary to help the “little guy” - the poor, working class, and middle class. There’s only one problem with progressives’ favorite claim: IT’S A MYTH! [more...]

This is What a Rigged System Looks Like

In May, U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson dismissed a lawsuit by the families of the victims of Benghazi against Hillary Clinton. Judge Jackson decided that the families couldn’t sue Hillary either for wrongful death or for defamation. That isn’t too surprising as Jackson is a former Clinton donor who had been appointed by Obama. And a Clinton donor should never have been ruling on a Clinton case. But now Judge Jackson will be presiding over the Paul Manafort case. Presiding over Manafort’s indictment is Judge Deborah A. Robinson whose most prominent previous case was the Berger trial. Sandy Berger, Bill Clinton’s former National Security Adviser, stole classified documents about the terror failures of the Clinton administration, hid documents under a construction trailer, lied about taking them and destroyed some of them. People have gone to jail for doing a whole lot less with classified documents. But not Clinton associates. [more...]

Another Terrorist Attack, Another Whitewash of Islamic Jihad

After a Muslim immigrant from Uzbekistan murdered eight people on a bike path in New York, the usual “expert” pundits and commentators began recycling the same cliches they always use to avoid a hard, uncomfortable fact: these killings are perpetrated by Muslims who are faithfully following fourteen centuries of Islamic precept and practice. Sixteen years after 9/11 we still don’t get the reality of Islamic jihad. Indeed, we can’t even get simple facts straight. The NYC terrorist’s cry of Allahu Akbar, the traditional Muslim battle-cry, is consistently mistranslated. [more...]

The ‘Paradise Papers’

On November 5th, 13.4 million electronic documents were released holding confidential information on how the wealthy funnel their money through offshore accounts to avoid paying taxes. The papers were hacked from Appleby, a law firm that specializes in offshore banking deals across the world. The papers explicitly show how wealthy individuals use offshore companies and accounts - “tax havens” to avoid paying taxes. Among those named in the Paradise Papers were the President of Columbia, Juan Manuel Santos; the current U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross, and Queen Elizabeth II. The papers also name multinational corporations that funnel money through foreign companies like Facebook, Apple, Nike, and Walmart, to name a few. [more...]

The Left in the University

As the Leftists scream at the sky on the anniversary of the election of President Trump, it makes us realize the corruption of American higher education is a tragic story in and of itself. “Snowflakes” and “safe spaces,” crowds of thugs shutting down conservative speakers, craven administrators caving in to demands of activist students and faculty have become increasingly common since the rise of Donald Trump sparked a “resistance” movement. Even progressives who have run afoul of campus terrorists are writing books about free speech now that their revolutionary children have started devouring their own. My new book, The Left in the University, volume 8 of The Black Book of the American Left, addresses this issue in detail. [more...]

Taxing America’s Future

The American Dream is being undermined by government policies. “The sweeping tax overhaul House Republicans introduced [November 2] would eliminate or scale back some of the biggest incentives for home-buying in federal law,” wrote Russell Berman in The Atlantic. This would, he said, cut in half the limit on deducting mortgage interest, cap property tax deductibility, repeal the tax deduction for moving expenses, and force more people to pay taxes on profits made from selling a home. The low-earning Millennial Generation has already postponed buying their first home, which has postponed marriages and couples starting a family, which has in turn helped spawn the lowest fertility rate in American history. Higher taxes, in other words, have unintended consequences. In this case, raising taxes on home ownership could mean far fewer children in this generation – and far fewer future workers to pay for Social Security and Medicare that are already speeding toward bankruptcy. [more...]

U.S. Economy Continues to Grow

The U.S. economy grew 3.1% during the third quarter of 2017. This was higher than expected after several states were damaged by hurricanes Irma and Harvey. Many analysts believed that there would be a sharp slowdown in our economic growth following the devastating results of this year’s hurricane season. However, spending held steady, even though home building investment dropped. Consumer spending had a 2.3% growth, added with the increased growth of exports; business investments in equipment and intellectual property kept the GDP growth rate at 3%. This was despite the fall of construction spending, mainly due to the effects of the hurricanes this year. [more...]

Hollywood Unravels

Hollywood is experiencing a seismic displacement that is impacting its business, brand, and future prospects. Since the disgusting serial behavior of Harvey Weinstein was made known to the public courtesy of the tenacious reporting of journalist Ronan Farrow, some of the most powerful members of the Hollywood community have been accused of various forms of sexual misconduct ranging from sexual harassment to criminal sexual assault. The alleged perpetrators comprise a list of some of the biggest and most heralded names in Hollywood... [more...]

In Corporate Taxes, It’s the Tax Base That Matters

In their just-announced tax reform plan, the Republicans are focusing on the corporate tax rate. But that’s the wrong variable to look at. The tax base is much more important than the rate, because the tax base determines the corporate profit that can be taxed. A broader tax base enables a lower tax rate; and if Congress does not change the tax base, then cutting the rate will prove a short-lived benefit, because continued erosion of the base will mean tax revenue will decline further and rates will need to go up again in the future. The core problem in today’s corporate tax system is that we say we have a worldwide tax system but in reality we tax mostly corporate income (profit) booked in the U.S. [more...]

The Left’s Failed Civil War

What promised to launch an "Antifa apocalypse" for America proved instead to be not a bang, but a whimper.  Only a handful of the usual radicals showed up in a few liberal cities to carry signs supplied by the Revolutionary Communist Party, which idolizes the Marxist totalitarianism of Mao Zedong. Even in New York City, mobilized by a full-page New York Times ad on November 1, photos appeared to be only a meager menagerie of protesters huddled together on a street in a city where large, boisterous left-wing rallies are commonplace. Comcast’s Steady Expansion Reaps High Returns

Comcast has been making steady moves to expand beyond its cable business. The release of their quarterly report for the 3rd quarter of 2017 seems to show that their work has paid off. The media firm, that is now worth $170 billion, has been entering new sectors through the acquisitions of NBC Universal and a recently launched wireless phone service. Comcast shares have risen significantly and have left the shares of Verizon Wireless and AT&T behind, but more importantly it has pulled away from Walt Disney in market vales this year. [more...]

Diversity is Our Terror

New York City is an incredibly diverse place. Here, an Uzbek Muslim immigrant in on a visa diversity lottery can run over Argentinian tourists, an Egyptian-Palestinian Muslim can shoot a Danish musician on the observation deck of the Empire State Building, Saudi Muslims can fly planes into the World Trade Center killing people from 77 countries, an Afghan Muslim can plant pressure cooker bombs in Chelsea, a Lebanese Muslim can open fire on a van of Jewish students and a Pakistani-Kuwaiti and Iraqi Muslim can bomb the World Trade Center. Truly, diversity is our terror. [more...]

Western Elites Take the Knee

President Trump once again has enraged the left by suggesting, with colorful language no less, that NFL players who kneel during the national anthem should be fired by their teams. Progressives criticized Trump’s lack of presidential decorum, racial insensitivity, and disrespect of the players’ First Amendment rights—and the head of the NFL defended the players and rebuked the President for his tweet demanding the players be fired. At the same time, declining attendance at NFL stadiums and lower ratings for televised games suggest that many Americans are unhappy with privileged athletes disrespecting the country’s flag. [more...]

The Left’s Misleading Claim of Racism in Law Enforcement

In August, the FBI Counterterrorism Division produced a report entitled “Black Identity Extremists (BIE) Likely Motivated to Target Law Enforcement Officers.” The report states that Black Identity Extremists are killing law enforcement officers and warns there is a high likelihood they will continue to do so. The left takes issue with the report and continues to mislead the public. One would think Americans, regardless of race, color, creed or political persuasion would stand forcefully against the unlawful killing of anyone, particularly the assassination of law enforcement officers. However, the usual suspects like The Washington Post, ACLU and Black Lives Matter don’t address that issue because it’s contained in a report that doesn’t reflect the liberal narrative that U.S. law enforcement is infected by systemic racism. They are quick to renounce violence by extremists on the right but they don’t want you to know about the extremists on the left.
