New Mexico Grants $10 Million to Relatively Unknown China Solar Panel Maker

A new solar company called Ebon Solar has secured a $10 million grant from the state of New Mexico, along with $1 million in financing and another $1 billion in a state-backed bond, to build an 834,000-square-foot solar cell manufacturing facility near Albuquerque, NM. This is one of at least three solar-related projects announced in the state since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022. Israeli multinational EnLight Renewable Energy and U.S. investment company D.E. Shaw are commissioning solar-plus-storage projects to build utility-scale solar projects in the state. Last year, Array Technologies announced plans to build a second tracker manufacturing plant in the state. Ebon Solar will be producing solar cells and panels, primarily targeting the residential market. [more...]

I just returned from Taiwan. Two clear messages were shared while I was there: 1) Taiwan expects a Cuban Missile like "Quarantine" within six months. Ships and aircraft may be stopped, turned away, or forced to undergo inspections. Undersea cables will be cut. 2) Taiwan simply wants immediate deliveries of the 19 or so FMS cases: "We will defend ourselves, please deliver the weapons as fast as possible, we are not "Freeloaders.” The sudden, no notice missile launches are a message. Most recently, Amazon’s Alexa has come under scathing criticism for clearly favoring Kamala Harris over Donald Trump when people asked Alexa who they should vote for. To study the chatbots’ political biases, the Crime Prevention Research Center, which I head, asked various AI programs questions on crime and gun control in March and again in August and ranked the answers on how progressive or conservative their responses were.
