Beyond the general chaos of the U.S. exit from that old world country, the handwringing over Afghanistan's oil and mineral wealth - from lithium for Tesla batteries to rare earths to power navigational systems on F16s - is mere drama for the media content mill. What's in Afghanistan's ground is staying in Afghanistan's ground. It has no money. It's poorer than Eritrea. And China, seen as a beneficiary, has had a copper mine there since 2008... they haven't dug up a single rock since. And probably never will. [more...]

Our $28 Trillion National Debt is Coming Due

Last September, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) predicted the federal debt wouldn’t hit $29 trillion until 2028. Just short of a year later, the national debt stands at $28.6 trillion and is set to surpass $29 trillion within weeks. Since Congress hasn't yet enacted all its new spending proposals, the CBO debt estimates don't yet include them. The $1.2 trillion “infrastructure” bill still has to pass the House, and a $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill will add to the current budget. The proposed 2022 budget will likely be more than $6 trillion (up from $4.8 trillion in 2020). [more...]

China Solar Moves to Asia

China solar companies were whacked with high tariffs due to their "dumping" products in the U.S. from 2005 to around 2011. It killed the U.S. industry. But 100% tariffs brought it back. Then Trump slapped an additional 20% on all solar panels made anywhere in the world, not just in China. Thanks to cheap labor, weak enviro rules, and currencies worth peanuts, the 20% is not a big deal for American importers. So, China, in order to avoid the 100% tariffs on them, is moving part of their solar business to southeast Asia. And now Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysian-made solar panels are flooding the market at a time when the Biden administration wants to turn off the oil and gas spigot. [more...]

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is the new Caliphate. This was the name of the Taliban Government ousted by U.S.-led forces in 2001. Al-Qaeda and ISIS social media rooms are celebrating the victory of Allah and vowing to flock to the newly established epicenter of Jihad where all jihadists worldwide are aspiring to come and share in the victory against the West.

Chatter has increased tenfold in the last few days. It has already been buzzing for the last few weeks as they knew victory was imminent. The Taliban are calling on all Imams to provide a list of all unmarried 12-14-year-old girls to force into marrying soldiers as war booty. The terrorists will have a country completely sealed off to our intelligence community. They will be able to plan, strategize, train, and execute terror operations without us having a hint or a glimpse into what they are plotting. No one will trust us even if we tried!

We were able to kill Suleimani because of our human intelligence on the ground in Syria and Iraq. The Iranians were shocked by the precise intelligence we had on Suleimani down to what he was wearing, when he landed, and the precise moment his plane touched the ground. Mexico's Dishonest Lawsuit Against American Gun Makers

Biden keeps telling Americans "(gun makers are) the only outfit that is exempt from being sued." Apparently, someone forgot to tell the Mexican government about that. Last week, they sued several U.S. gun makers, seeking $10 billion in damages. They claim that the companies are "conscious of the fact that their products are trafficked and used in illicit activities against the civilian population and authorities of Mexico." Among those facing the lawsuit are well-known names: Smith & Wesson Brands, Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Beretta USA, Glock, and Colt. Over the last 48 hours, the world has watched Afghanistan fall to Taliban fighters. The Taliban has now effectively taken over a nation that has been occupied by American and NATO forces. New footage has come out from the nation's capital showing people desperately trying to board evacuation flights out of the city as gunfire can be seen in the sky. There are also reports that President Ashraf Ghani has left the country; he is now reportedly in neighboring Tajikistan. The recurring refrain in today's media is astonishment over the sheer rapidity of the Taliban takeover; they swept across the nation and captured every major city and region in a matter of a week! China Solar Product Bought on Amazon Burns House

American Family Mutual Insurance is suing Amazon in a Minnesota court because their client's home caught fire thanks to a faulty China made solar generator. The boon in e-commerce imports, thanks in large part to Amazon and lockdowns, is mostly thanks to a U.S. customs rule that allows for $800 and under goods to flow into the U.S. duty free. We are the only country that sets the minimum price before port taxes kick in to be at such a high level, leaving the door wide open for Chinese commerce, including garbage goods that burn your house down. Consumers have no recourse as Amazon is not the manufacturer. This insurance company is trying their luck and hoping Amazon will pay before it sees a court date. [more...]

In a very thoughtful recent piece at American Greatness, Adam Ellwanger argues that "Conservatism is Over," so it is time for the Right to adopt a new vocabulary. His subject is an important one. It is both true and important that the Left distorts the meaning of political words to their political advantage. But what if Americans who believe they are defending the founders have also contributed to the confusion in America's political vocabulary? If conservatives have been contributing to the confusion, clearing up those confusions may turn out to be essential to the success of any project involving a new vocabulary for a new Right.
