Hollywood Has a Case of Post-Election Remorse

A change is in the air in Hollywood and has affected the entertainment community's long-term relationship with President Obama. The same group that provided significant amounts of both public support and campaign donations during the last presidential election appears to be souring on Obama due to one major issue.

Last week director Oliver Stone was in Tokyo promoting a Showtime documentary, and used strong highly explicit language to communicate his displeasure with the president. "Obama is a snake, and we have to turn on him" Stone told the press. What prompted the filmmaker to use reptilian analogies were the reports of NSA surveillance of Americans that was revealed by the Edward Snowden leaks. Desperate Unions Grow Weary of Phony Distractions

Big Labor bosses are facing the increasing realization that their organizations are rapidly facing extinction. Faced with this stark reality, they grow increasingly tired of phony promises and betrayal from a phony president. A trifecta of difficulties, consisting of recent revelations of the impact Obamacare will have on union costs and membership, the weakening of support for "card check" legislation, and the increasing popularity and passage of "Right-to-Work" laws have the "gasping dinosaurs" very nervous. Union membership is at a 50-year low, representing a mere 11.3% of the total workforce and 6.7% of the private workforce. These statistics have Big Labor bosses fighting mad at the lack of return from their campaign investments for the president and desperate enough to attempt any and all options to rebuild declining membership. The landscape of news has been littered with Al Sharpton and Jim Wallis (as well as others), telling us that people of faith must endorse immigration reform, environmental initiatives, and socialism. When Ted Cruz's pastor correctly warned this week about the historic dangers of socialism and compared it to the path the United States is on, many freaked out, calling this kind of faith-based analysis inappropriate.  I say, "Way to go!" School Lunch Lady Admits First Lady’s Food Overhaul is Designed to Change American Culture

There’s another student revolt over the First Lady's "healthy" school lunch regulations. And, of course, the students are to blame, according to school officials. Sally Rathje, director of food services for Ohio’s Delaware City School District, told ThisWeekNews that as a result of the new federal school lunch standards, there was a 7 percent reduction in total meals provided and an 11 percent decline in total revenue last school year. The paper’s story carries the headline, "Delaware students foiling cafeteria food’s evolution." Rathje’s reason is disturbing: "We are changing the culture in America right now. We are trying to change our behavior and taste patterns. It won’t happen overnight. It takes time," she told the paper. Is it really the duty of lunch ladies to change "the culture in America?" Showdown: Historian Diana West versus the Intelligentsia

Diana West's provocative new book, American Betrayal: The Secret Assault on Our Nation's Character, has been making waves on both the right and the left for bombshell claims of Communist infiltration of the United States government in the twentieth century.

After the book was "serialized" on Breitbart News, attacks have come from the left and even the right.

Conservative Front Page Magazine writer and historian Ronald Radosh called West Joe McCarthy's "heiress." Radosh attacked her for being "reckless" and giving "anti-communism a bad name."

West fired back on her Web site and said of Radosh's review, "This hit piece isn't just mendacious. It's incompetent. I think the import is already clear. Radosh didn't read the book, or, more likely, constructed a review calculated to undermine my arguments by gross omission."

The feud between Radosh and West has moved on from internecine battles on the right as New York Magazine writer Jonathan Chait weighed in from the left. Chait said in an article titled, "Conservative Historian Has Interesting Ideas," that "Faithful readers of the conservative news have been conditioned to believe that modern history is shaped by dark liberal plots, all covered up by the mainstream news." [more...]

The Left Rewrites History

I was floored by a quote about the history of Democrats on their national Web site. It read: "For more than 200 years, our party has led the fight for civil rights, health care, Social Security, workers’ rights, and women’s rights.” Is that how they really see history? President Obama’s misguided attempt to bend Egyptian political affairs in the Muslim Brotherhood’s favor is unraveling the carefully nurtured military and economic alliance between the U.S. and Egypt, which has served for decades to stabilize that vital part of the Middle East. First, after throwing former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak under the bus, the Obama administration did everything it could to portray the Muslim Brotherhood as a worthy organization committed to democratic principles of governance. The U.S. was seen by many secular Egyptians, including those who spearheaded the original revolution that led to Mubarak’s overthrow, as helping to unfairly tip the scales in favor of the Muslim Brotherhood’s candidates. Have Republicans Already Lost the White House?

Republicans may have already lost the White House in 2016 and may have to hang on just to keep the House in 2014 which is in jeopardy.  It's not media domination, rock star politicians and the always on Democratic campaign mode; it's deeper, inside the party and on the fringe.  I love the Tea Party, but there is no organization nationally to guide their alliance with the Republicans and frankly many of them just do not want the Republican that can win an election to win because they are not conservative enough.  The string of unelectable candidates that pushed easy wins aside for the Republicans is long and will grow longer.  The Tea Party is the spoiler now and they do not realize how grave that is.  With good intentions, they are now going to force very good Republican leaders from races and chances to win a general election and push into the general election those that will be thumped hard by a Democratic opponent. Obamacare: Smoke and Mirrors

Our healthcare system has been the envy of the world with both clinical and research innovation at the heart of its foundation. What made our system exceptional was the fact that it was based on free enterprise. Doctors have been free to practice medicine under the guidelines set forth by their Hippocratic Oath and patients were free to seek treatment from physicians of their choice. Initially it was very simple and affordable – the independent private physician had both a moral/ethical and a fiduciary responsibility to the patient. The doctor/patient relationship was sacrosanct and there was no third party middle man. Since 1948, when the United Nations created the World Health Organization, there has been an inexorable movement towards centralization of the power to take decisions away from the individual and give them to the government in the form of regulation and mandates. This model was adopted readily by other countries and is the underpinning of socialized medicine. The U.S. was notably the only western country to hold out. However, that changed in1965 when Medicare was passed as part of the Social Security amendments. Medicare was set up as a federal program that provided socialized medicine for America’s seniors. Clooney Goes Off Script in Hollywood Business Battle

In early August 2013, hedge fund billionaire Daniel Loeb decided to weigh in on Sony’s summer movie decisions. Loeb heads up Third Point Capital, a hedge fund that holds a 7 percent ownership interest in Sony. Two recent box-office bombs, “After Earth” and “White House Down,” have prompted Loeb to let loose with some pointed barbs about the film studio’s performance.

The billionaire investor strongly criticized Sony in his quarterly letter for the “poorly managed” film division, citing “high salaries for underperforming senior executives.”

Actor-filmmaker George Clooney jumped into the fray by blasting Loeb: "[Loeb] calls himself an activist investor, and I would call him a carpetbagger, and one who is trying to spread a climate of fear that pushes studios to want to make only tent poles," Clooney told Deadline. “A guy from a hedge fund entity is the single least qualified person to be making these kinds of judgments, and he is dangerous to our industry.” According to Clooney, whose production company is working with Sony on the actor’s upcoming Oscar-seeking film, "The Monuments Men," Loeb is attempting to frighten studio execs into sticking with low risk, non-innovative film fare. Shuttering Fannie and Freddie Beats Making Taxpayers Shutter

For years, banks have been spared the consequences of making bad decisions and bad loans because Fannie and Freddie have been the proverbial government pillow keeping them from feeling the pain of making risky loans.  When the loans go bad, instead of facing the music, they ask the government to take from the taxpayers and "bail them out."  Simply put, the pain of the bank's head-banging is passed on to the taxpayers.  Do banks learn the lesson?  Not if they don't feel the pain. Obama is championing a bipartisan effort to shutter Fannie and Freddie.  For years, politicians have known that they have enabled bad behavior and have been left holding the bag.  Now, at least a few politicians are trying to get us on the trajectory of moving toward privatization. How to Vanquish Al Qaeda

It's now official: the USA is running for cover! 19 U.S. embassies in different parts of the Muslim world are being vacated due to fear of being attacked by Al Qaeda terrorists. Presumably, the intent is to preclude a repeat of the Al Qaeda killings of Americans in Benghazi. In essence, a small band of vicious thugs have brought the world's most powerful military to its knees – rendered incapable of defending its country’s representatives. What should be done? One obvious suggestion is to rethink the "new" attitudes that have impacted upon how the military conducts its anti-terrorist business. Forceful interrogations have been discontinued and wiretapping surveillance is under attack. If this was not enough, Secretary of State John Kerry has promised an end to much of our drone activity. This leaves the proud U.S. military with few options other than running for cover. [more...]

Where is the Push for the Fairness Doctrine Now?

The liberals are crying foul against the bravery of RNC Chair Priebus for calling out their bias and obvious promotion of a political candidate.  Talk about freedom of the press!  It is a free and massive political endorsement of a future candidate who will run to become the President of the Unites States of the Democratic Party.  Where is the Fairness Doctrine push now?  Haven't liberals been trying to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine so they can go after conservative radio?  Then what is fair or balanced or even politically and socially correct about a huge profile TV show, in all its splendor and adoration of Hillary, being produced and aired on liberal TV?  This reinforces the fact that control of the media is truly the most powerful weapon of the 21st century.  You see, giving voters their opinion is all part of controlling power in the U.S. and brainwashing our kids from birth is a lot worse. Matt Damon Stars in Sci-Fi Socialism

"Elysium," starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, is a new science fiction action film that is opening in wide release in more than 2,700 movie theaters nationwide. Sony's TriStar Pictures is releasing its first big-budget offering since 1998 and is doing so in the form of a heavy-handed political propaganda flick.

The movie uses a mid-22nd century dystopian future to deliver a contrived story line in which the divide between the haves and have-nots has resulted in a worldwide banana republic. Wealthy elitists live in a place called Elysium, which incidentally is another name for the Elysian Fields, an Ancient Greek conception of the afterlife. It is a pristine utopia housed in a massive high-tech space station, where sprawling mansions abound and medical technologies have advanced to the point that all diseases are met with an instant cure. Those who are unfortunate enough to be located outside of the Elysium realm must endure an overpopulated, poverty stricken, crime ridden, disease-filled world positioned far below the orbiting "Valhalla" in the sky.
