Kids today can be demanding, defiant, mouthy, disrespectful, and fiercely independent. “At no time,” lamented school principal Hilderbrand Pelzer III in The Philadelphia Citizen, “has educational work been so difficult for teachers,” because they must spend their time dealing with “challenging student behavior.” But think of your own childhood. Were you a model of saintliness? Teachers have a nearly impossible job because humans aren’t born acting like angels. We’re “crooked timber,” the philosopher Immanuel Kant said. The Progressive Future - Money for Nothing

Now, six years later, it is about to become the first American city to experiment with “universal basic income,” simply giving people money for nothing, no questions asked. This is the next great liberal utopian scheme: give everybody a guaranteed income from the government whether they need it or not, as Craig R. Last week the world quietly lost an icon of the music world. I had the privilege of touring with Dennis Edwards in the 1970s, when he sang with the legendary Motown group, the Temptations. I also worked with him in the studio and heard his performances up close and personal, accompanying him as part of the band. He was simply the best singer I have ever heard. Watching the [Deep] State of the Union Address, one could not help but be shocked at the petulant vituperative Democrat Congressional delegation’s demeanor. The angry scowls, the refusal to respect, to applaud or stand up for the improving employment picture - both minority and female, economic expansion and the hope for a better tomorrow. The Fall of Wells Fargo

Wells Fargo stock is down 9% following the announcement that the Fed was penalizing the financial institution. The central bank cited “widespread consumer abuses” after it was made public that Wells Fargo created millions of fake customer accounts. And the Fed is coming down hard, putting a limit on Wells Fargo’s entire assets, the first time it has done this in history. This means that Wells Fargo will not be allowed to expand until the Federal Reserve sees fit. Wells Fargo is the second largest bank in the U.S., managing $2 trillion in assets, second only to JPMorgan Chase. Wells Fargo is now facing the toughest penalty issued by the Fed. [more...]

What is the Potential Significance of the FISA Memo?

Apparently, the evidence gathered by the House Intelligence Committee and contained in the FISA Memo indicates there were activities related to FISA done by the FBI to influence the 2016 presidential election. In addition, it appears that the Trump campaign might have illegally been under surveillance and that a large number of Americans were “unmasked” as part of FISA warrant(s).

Plus, the FISA warrant(s) might have been issued based on the Trump Dossier, an apparent campaign smear document paid for by the Clinton campaign and the DNC for about $9 million. Money went to Perkins Coie (a law firm), then to Fusion GPS (an opposition research firm), then Christopher Steele (a former MI-6 Russian spy). Also, the Associate Deputy Attorney General, Bruce Ohr, did not report his meetings with Fusion GPS and Christopher Steele. For too long, America has been led by a naive embrace of free trade that overlooks the predatory behavior of our trade competitors. Widespread trade cheating and poorly designed trade deals have led to persistent U.S. trade deficits causing job losses, manufacturing decline and income stagnation. Many nations push their currency values lower, and the dollar higher, to gain a price advantage in global market at our expense. Their governments subsidize manufacturing in order to “dump” product in the U.S. market at below cost. These predatory practices violate world trade law and destroy American industries. Thankfully, President Trump appears willing to confront such abuses by punishing trade violators and renegotiating job-killing trade agreements. [more...]

Funding the Great Border Wall

The Senate’s Democratic leader Charles Schumer offered President Trump far less than one-tenth the money needed for “the wall,” then quickly withdrew his meager offer after illegal immigrant “dreamer” radical protestors attacked him and stormed his home. They demanded that his party grant them immediate, unconditional citizenship and cease all bargaining with the President. Senator Schumer quickly took the side of self-righteous illegals against law-abiding, tax-paying U.S. citizens. The Democrats ceased to be an American political party when they became globalist and embraced their President Obama’s new allegiance as a “citizen of the world.” If neither the country of Mexico nor the Democrat Party will agree to pay for the border wall, President Trump does have other ways and means of doing so. He and the Republican Party, for example, could impose a 20 percent tax or tariff on imports, which would be paid in part by Americans in higher prices, to have “Mexico pay for the wall.” Better yet, we could impose a “border adjustment tax.” [more...]

Over time the entertainment industry and its accompanying awards shows seem to have grown ever more political, and the 90th Academy Awards ceremony looks as if it will prove to be consistent with the left-leaning trend. The Oscars event is ostensibly designed to provide recognition to the highest achievement of motion picture artistry and has conventionally been viewed as the pinnacle of award shows. Were the Democrats suddenly reevaluating their relationships to Islamic hate groups linked to the Muslim Brotherhood such as CAIR and ISNA? Raheel Raza, the president of Council for Muslims Facing Tomorrow, is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal and Toronto’s Constance Hamilton award. She’s a diversity consultant and interfaith activist who taught a series on “Women in Islam” at Ryerson University. There were more millennial billionaires in one place then we’ll ever see again in my life. 30 plus companies/block chain purveyors presented at a cost of $20,000 per 15 minutes. Our good friend Jeff Berwick was present preaching his anarcho-capitalist way of life, and was very well received. Everyone presenter had a similar story to tell/sell. The Obama Government’s Secret Societies

A week after the election, groups inside and outside the government, some calling themselves Obama Anonymous, had begun meeting to plan the “resistance” to Trump. Unlike the angry protesters in the streets, this resistance wasn’t a new organization. It consisted of Washington, D.C. government lifers. At the CFPB, there was a group calling itself Dumbledore’s Army. Within the FBI and the DOJ, there was a nameless “secret society.” Its details are being derived from text messages exchanged between Peter Strzok, a disgraced member of Mueller’s team, and his mistress, Lisa Page, who worked for FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe. Previous Strzok texts had spoken of taking out “insurance” against a Trump win. This was all the more significant since Strzok had investigated Hillary and interviewed Flynn. He was a crucial figure in both the investigations of Hillary Clinton and President Trump. [more...]

The Shutdown is Over... for Now

A short-term resolution was made ending the 3-day government shutdown. The vote held on Monday was a short compromise as members from both sides urged their party leaders to find a resolution and get federal employees back to work. However, the vote came late in the work day, after hundreds of thousand federal workers were put on furlough. The resolution was passed with a 266-159 vote in the house and 81-18 in the senate, but with some contingencies. The Democrats agreed to stop the shutdown if the republicans agree to hold a vote for a legislative fix to DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). But the resolution is on a running clock. Although the account by “Grace,” the pseudonymous accuser, has been defended by many, others who have supported the outing of sexual assaulters have drawn the line at lumping bad dates in with more serious sexual malfeasance. Still others hope that the absurdity of Grace’s charges will force a rollback of the ever-escalating demonization of men guilty of nothing more than failing to fulfill a woman’s subjective expectations even when not made explicit. Why the Schumer Shutdown?

We all know why Democrats were eager to use a government shutdown to force a path to citizenship for Latino aliens called “Dreamers.” Now up to 36 years of age and numbering up to 3.6 million, these potential voters are inclined to vote two-to-one in favor of Democrats who have thus far refused to negotiate whether Dreamers, if made legal immigrants, can sponsor their parents and other relatives as legal residents and, soon thereafter, voting U.S. citizens... moving them ahead of other applicants. Text messages between two FBI employees (who were also romantically involved) - Peter Strzok and Lisa Page - during the 2016 presidential election, were revealed Monday by Attorney General Jeff Sessions. There were 50,000 text messages between the two FBI employees. Plus, apparently another batch of messages were missing during a 5-month period from December 14, 2016 to May 17, 2017. These text messages, rather than clearing up issues, raise additional issues about the potential involvement of the FBI and the Obama administration in reacting to the election of Trump. President Trump’s “America first” trade strategy will likely gain momentum as 2018 gets underway. The promised “renegotiation” of NAFTA is in full swing; and America’s solar panel, steel, and aluminum manufacturers are eagerly awaiting decisions in trade cases involving heavily subsidized imports from China. Many domestic manufacturers are reporting increased sales because President Trump’s trade rhetoric has caused multinationals to look harder for American sourcing. The administration is clearly serious. Already this year, promised efforts to revisit the 2012 U.S.-South Korea trade agreement have begun. This is important since America’s trade deficit with South Korea has more than doubled from $13 billion in 2011 to $27 billion in 2016. [more...]

According to FBI statistics, the nationwide, decades-long decline in violent crime, to include homicide, reversed itself and increased since 2014. Will President Trump’s vocal support of law enforcement help reverse the trend and be reflected in 2017 crime statistics? There is no doubt that Presidents Obama and Trump have differing views of law enforcement. Obama and the liberals took the political position of demonizing law enforcement and treating offenders as victims in order to motivate his African American base. The cost of that position was a high one, if linked to increases in violent crime and homicide or the increasing ambush and deadly attacks on police in 2016-2017. Trump, on the other hand, has taken every opportunity to praise the brave men and women of law enforcement. He did so as a candidate and continues to do so as President. When Time picks an abstract concept as its ‘Thing of the Year,’ it’s the kiss of death. So, #MeToo was headed for trouble as soon as it became Time’s ‘Thing of the Year.’ The best way to fight one hashtag was with another hashtag; #TimesUp replaced #MeToo. But where #MeToo was a raw personal accusation, #TimesUp was an impersonal leftist slogan of political urgency. In true Hollywood style, the solution is sending a lot of money to an established lefty group to tackle the problem: the National Women’s Law Center. It’s the same old Harvey Weinstein solution. Throw money at a trendy lefty cause and keep on inviting actresses up to your hotel room. Fifty years ago, the movie that changed the movies premiered. Anybody old enough to remember films before “Bonnie and Clyde” can testify to the jolting power of Arthur Penn’s kinetic blend of bluegrass slapstick, Depression-era nostalgia and gruesome, stylized violence. But something else was revealed then, something that I, just 14 at the time, was too callow and ignorant to notice behind the movie’s aesthetic sheen - the moral idiocy that has since come to define so much of contemporary American popular culture. “Bonnie and Clyde” staked a claim to a moral seriousness that supposedly validated the stylistic innovations and elevated the film beyond mere flashy entertainment. Millennials Prefer a Socialist, Communist or Fascist Nation

A recent poll by YouGov finds 58% of millennials would prefer to live in “a socialist, communist or fascist nation rather than a capitalistic one,” the Washington Times reports, with a staggering 44% preferring socialism. “This troubling turn highlights widespread historical illiteracy in American society regarding socialism and the systemic failure of our education system to teach students about the genocide, destruction and misery caused by communism since the Bolshevik Revolution one hundred years ago,” Marion Smith, Executive Director of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, said in a statement. Only two years ago, the same group found 36% of millennials have a positive opinion of socialism - so the trend is troubling, to say the least. [more...]

Franco a Fiasco for the Oscars?

It is expected that the Oscars telecast will follow the lead of the other awards shows and make Hollywood’s sex scandals a frazzled thread woven throughout the proceedings. Of concern for the Academy, though, is something involving actor James Franco. The Hollywood star has been viewed as an actual contender, not only for a nomination for an Academy Award for his work in “The Disaster Artist,” but also as a top tier candidate for a Best Actor trophy at the Oscar telecast. Critics are raving about Franco’s portrayal of the real-life director of “The Room,” which is said by critics and fans to be the worst film ever made. The particular predicament for the Academy, at this extraordinary time in Hollywood history, are some allegations that have been raised against Franco concerning sexually inappropriate behavior. Five women have accused him of inappropriate or sexually exploitative conduct, according to an investigation by The Los Angeles Times. [more...]

And when you see Mika Brzezinski attacking President Trump on MSNBC, remember that her father was President Carter’s National Security Advisor, Zbigniew Brzezinski, who proposed that our Persian Gulf fleet shoot down Israeli warplanes if they tried to destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities. 43,000 to Lose Their Jobs as Construction Firm Collapses

A major construction firm with multiple contracts across the globe has collapsed. Carillion, which employs 43,000 people worldwide reported it has no other choice than to close. Carillion has roughly 19,000 employees in the UK and 10,000 in Canada. Three quarters of its revenue comes from the UK where it holds major building contracts with the government. Back in late 2007, shares of Carillion were worth $6.30, but last week that dropped to about $0.17. [more...]
