The U.S. auto, parts and components supply chain has been weakened by growing imports, which now account for 48 percent of passenger vehicles purchased in the U.S. The industry must be strong enough, and profitable enough, to support development now and in the future. The decline of our auto industry, including a 22 percent decline in industry employment since 1990, reflects the unfair global market in which many of our competitors use industrial strategy, subsidies and misaligned exchange rates to erode our domestic industry. Disney Stunned as ‘Solo’ Stumbles at the Box Office

The “Star Wars” franchise has been a sure winner for Disney, well worth the $4 billion the studio paid for Lucasfilm in 2012. When a “Star Wars” movie is released, it is nothing short of a spectacular event accompanied by an interstellar performance at the box office, but not this time. Box-office proceeds of the latest “Star Wars” installment, “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” has hit Disney executives hard, with a lower than expected three-day opening of $84.7 million and a projected four-day opening of $103 million - all this while the movie carried a production budget of over $250 million. The “Solo” results were 46 percent lower than the previous “Star Wars” release, “Rogue One,” causing Lucasfilm and Disney to reexamine the management of the “Star Wars” asset. Over the last thirty years, American universities have steadily abandoned their liberal ideals and become one-party states, where conservatives and their ideas are treated as alien intruders. Conservative faculty members at schools like UC Santa Cruz are as rare as unicorns. Entire academic disciplines, like Santa Cruz’s Feminist Studies Department, are openly designed as indoctrination programs in the ideologies of the left, with no pretense of examining a range of ideas in a scholarly manner. Required reading lists throughout the liberal arts curriculum have been cleansed of books by conservative authors. And over the last twenty years even visits by conservative speakers unconnected to the university have become contested occasions where leftwing activists obstruct, slander, and attempt to disrupt the visitor’s’ efforts to present a conservative point of view. This is a national disgrace – an offense to the very idea of education in a democracy like ours. But it is tacitly supported by the university itself. [more...]

They’re Not God

The silent majority are fed up with millionaire entertainers and athletes shaping our society - in a very negative way - with their leftist socialist agendas. We are the ones who support them! We go to their movies, we root for them at their games, we buy their products and are “gaga” over everything they do.  However, our recent boycotts are hitting them hard in the only place that matters to them - their pocketbooks - with the NFL’s low attendance, falling box office receipts, low awards shows’ viewership and more. Morgan Freeman, whose role as God in one movie has since had his Hollywood-invented popularity rewarded with wealth and fame, many endorsement deals, playing God in documentaries and more, has shown his true colors - first by apologizing for the allegations against him and now retracting them.  Well, the advertising industry doesn’t like it and many have fired “God” as his endorsement deals are going up in smoke.  Even “God” is not getting by with such behind-the-scenes behavior. What is the “Crossfire Hurricane?”

In explicating the derivation of “Crossfire Hurricane,” I think they focused on the right line from “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” but I think it should perhaps be read in connection with the preceding verses. The first lines of the four verses in the song read as follows:

I was born in a cross-fire hurricane
I was raised by a toothless, bearded hag
I was drowned, I was washed up and left for dead
I was crowned with a spike right through my head

From the Lisa Page/Peter Strzok texts, we know Page took the position that Trump couldn’t possibly win, but Strzok responded that an “insurance policy” was necessary in case Trump unexpectedly prevailed. In other words, Trump might be, as most people thought at the time, electorally “washed up and left for dead” - but if he won, despite the odds, it was necessary that he be damaged from the moment he was inaugurated - “crowned with a spike right through [his] head.” [more...]

The administration at UC Santa Cruz has adopted a policy for visiting speakers that washes its hands of any responsibility for what happens to visiting speakers to its campus. The policy frees the university from any responsibility to insure that there is the kind of civility that is essential to a scholarly discussion of dissenting ideas. Visiting speakers are now required to sign a “waiver” that frees UC Santa Cruz of any responsibility for harm that might come to them, even if that harm is caused by “negligence” on the part of the university. Since conservatives have been the targets of virtually all the protests and violence against visiting speakers, while leftists have been the disrupters responsible, this waiver is in practice the university’s decision to join the left’s hostile treatment of conservative voices, and its general attack on free speech.

The Santa Cruz Republicans have honored me with an invitation to speak on campus, June 6, 2018. I am 79 years old, am handicapped, and have been threatened and/or physically  attacked by leftist students on several campuses where I was invited to speak. I am not going to collude in the decision by UC Santa Cruz to wash its hands of responsibility for what happens to conservative speakers like me on its campus. This is a betrayal of its duty as a public institution to protect free speech and intellectual diversity and I am not going to be a party to that. I therefore regretfully will not be speaking at the university on June 6.

Framework Trade Deal with China

The administration promised to fix the China problem. The framework deal reported this weekend only makes it worse. America is becoming a natural resource and tourism exporter to China, putting us in the economic position of a third world colony. China’s predatory capitalism is designed to displace America as the world’s largest and most advanced economic power. The deal announced by Secretary Mnuchin enables, rather than neutralizes, China’s state capitalism strategy. The focus for future negotiations must be to deny the benefits of forced technology transfer and state-planned capitalism that unfairly displace American value-added and advanced manufacturing supply chains. [more...]

The Fourth Amendment is Worth Protecting

The New York Times recently published an extensive article that attempted to shine a positive light on an appallingly scandalous set of facts. However, even with its extravagant spin efforts, the newspaper could not exclude the information that the FBI employed secret counterintelligence tools to spy on the Trump campaign, including the use of a paid confidential informant who sought to extract damaging information from several people associated with the campaign. It is a grave situation when, through the use of counterintelligence powers, a presidential administration targets officials associated with the campaign of the opposition party. Oil Prices Rise Globally

The usual case is that with a weaker American dollar, oil prices drop because it then becomes cheaper for nations using foreign currencies to buy crude oil. However, because of continued turmoil and the coming renewed sanctions (set by the USA pulling out of the Iran deal), crude oil prices in the global marketplace are expected to rise as experts wait to see how such sanctions and political conflicts in oil-rich countries affect the global marketplace. Both European and American oil import prices have risen to almost a whole percent - the highest since November 2014. Experts predict up to 350,000 barrels of Iranian oil could be at risk of disruption if sanctions were re-imposed. [more...]

Eight More Years!

Although President Trump has achieved much, the anti-democratic tactics used against him have sapped his political capital and impaired his constitutional power to fulfill his campaign promises. Our unelected government is defying and spitting in the face of the voters. This is not the way our democracy is supposed to work. Democracy delayed is democracy denied. Arrogant leftist stonewalling, obstruction, and collusion have stolen almost two years of the Trump Administration for which Americans voted. Since the 2016 election, we have learned of Ms. Clinton’s undemocratic secret manipulation of the Democratic Party’s primary process, and of her own and the Democratic National Committee’s collusion through the Russian dossier used to get FISA warrants to spy on Trump activities. Special Counsel Robert Mueller is not investigating a crime, as our legal system requires, but pursuing President Trump in hopes of finding a crime, any crime. If and when these anti-democratic leftist furies fail in their effort to undo the 2016 election, voters will rightly ask for justice. How can they reclaim their chosen President’s two stolen years of governing? The U.S. Constitution has no provision to return two years robbed from a President held political hostage by the opposition party. But voters can and should give President Trump a 60-seat Senate majority and strong House majority this November. Its full organizational name, like that of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), is rarely used because that identity and mission lie in another era. The ADL was founded in 1913 to promote the acceptance of Jews in mainstream society. Its founding charter was concerned with "the caricaturing and defaming of Jews on the stage, in moving pictures." The EU’s Magical Thinking on the Israeli-Arab Conflict

For seven decades, the West’s foreign policy establishment has been trying to call Middle East peace from depths of endless summits and conferences and agreements with ritualistic chants of “land for peace” and “two-state solution.” But all they’ve managed to produce is war, terrorism, and groveling appeasement. The EU has been particularly feckless, spending billions of Euros paying off the Palestinian Arabs so that they and their fellow jihadists don’t unleash terrorist hordes to disturb la dolce vita of European elites. Fearful of the disgruntled unassimilated Muslim immigrants they have let invade their countries, they have demonized Israel’s “illegal occupation” and “disproportionate use of force,” and winked at growing anti-Semitism and Muslim violence, all in the hopes that they will escape the wrath of Allah’s “martyrs.” Of course, they haven’t, as attested by the blood and gore spattering the streets of Paris, London, Brussels, Berlin, and Madrid. Collapsing Infrastructure Hits Home... Again

One of President Trump’s campaign promises was to revamp America’s infrastructure - rebuilding roads, bridges and airports.  As a master international builder of great buildings, he promised the “infrastructure of tomorrow.” “Our roads and bridges are falling apart,” Trump said as he accepted the GOP nomination. “We will build the roads, highways, bridges, tunnels, airports and the railways of tomorrow. This, in turn, will create millions of more jobs.”

During the debates, Trump compared the "incredible airports" in Dubai, Qatar and China to less impressive ones in the U.S. "Our airports are like from a third world country," he said, calling out LAX and New York City's three international airports: LaGuardia, John F. Kennedy and Newark.

Since then, a pedestrian bridge in Miami collapsed, killing six people. Did it crack when it was lifted into place? Was it a snapping steel support that did it in? Or was it a fatally flawed design from the start? And what was the doomed construction crew member doing when the bridge buckled under him?

This week, Charleston, South Carolina’s Wando Bridge on Interstate 526, was shut down Monday for emergency repairs - the bridge was designed by FIGG Bridge Group, the same engineering firm that designed the pedestrian bridge that collapsed and killed six people in Miami. The Wando Bridge, formally known as the James Burrow Edwards Bridge, was constructed in the late 1980s-early 1990s.

Having worked extensively back in 1989, on investigating the the twenty-six mile half a billion-dollar (in 1989 dollars) Mark Clark Expressway separating Mount Pleasant from Downtown, West Ashley, and North Charleston which has been, for all intents and purposes, shut down, I know a thing or two about this topic. When this boondoggle was first built, and I was looking for a missing bridge inspector, Governor Campbell sent word to me, along with 5,000 pages of Highway Department contracts, soil boring plats and assorted other information that I was on my own with my investigation, that the Highway Department was autonomous and beyond anyone's control. 

Once again, the Wando Bridge is collapsing because of corruption, incompetence, selfishness, money grubbing highway contractors, lawmakers, and state and federal law enforcement that make the Keystone Cops look competent.  I only hope an investigation will reveal the truth once and for all.  How many more people have to die because of our collapsing infrastructure?  We spend trillions of dollars every year rebuilding other countries; can’t we spend a few bucks on our own? We're right now at the point where I think Donald Trump is getting ready to fire Mueller... I think it’s imminent.

I think he'll also fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions as well.  I believe Trump plans to lay out the case to the nation that Mueller is a corrupt prosecutor - the kind of prosecutor who will violate laws. When President Trump brings this back to the American people, I think the American people will not object to Mueller being fired, and in his wake, his protector Rod Rosenstein, and Jeff Sessions. California’s Economy Will Benefit from President Trump’s Trade Policies

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer [D-New York] recently said that he supports President Trump’s trade policies more than he supported President Obama’s.

Trade matters because it profoundly impacts America’s manufacturing sector. California residents might be surprised to learn that their state is home to the nation’s largest manufacturing base, including a whopping 1.3 million manufacturing workers.
