With the NATO Summit and the focus on President Biden’s health and gaffes behind us, we should reflect on a significant shortcoming: China. China came up in the NATO conversation, but mostly in the context of Beijing’s support for Russia in the war in Ukraine. What was seldom mentioned was that China’s rise isn’t just an American problem, but an international one. Chinese troops are training on NATO member Poland’s eastern border in Belarus; China encourages the Houthis (which damages freedom of navigation in the global commons), and China is openly building up its military and championing its “inevitable” air superiority through its still-developing sixth-generation fighter aircraft. China is advancing on land and sea and in the air. [more...]

During Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle’s testimony last week before the House Oversight Committee, Democrats continually pushed for gun control, with Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) going so far as asking if Americans' ownership of guns is a safety threat. Cheatle may now have resigned, but the reaction to her testimony still tells us what Democrats learned from the attempted assassination of former President Trump. Guns make society safer when police aren’t present to protect victims. Every place in the world that has banned all guns or all handguns has seen murder rates go up. If guns endanger safety, it ought to be easy to find a place where a ban has been effective. [more...]

The most prosaic and immediately accurate answer is the French government, which has had years to prepare for these Olympics, and surely must have known in advance about all the drag queens, the mockery of the Last Supper, and the rest. The rot, however, goes much deeper, and the disgraceful display had scarcely ended in Paris when some circles began to point fingers at another culprit: the Jews. France unveiled a decidedly family-unfriendly spectacle last Saturday for over 28.6 million viewers worldwide as the four-hour opening ceremony for the 2024 Olympics, which unfolded along a 4.5-mile stretch of the River Seine in Paris, turned into the world’s most-watched Pride Parade. Because Western cultural elites today are overwhelmingly cultural Marxists, the organizers of the 2,800-year-old athletic competition decided to jettison any connection with sports, athletic excellence, or national pride, and instead promote the normalization of sexual perversion, gender ideology, and anti-Christian bigotry. Public Demand for J.D. Vance’s Backstory Continues to Rise

Vance would be former president and current GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s pick as running mate in the upcoming presidential election, book sales of Vance’s memoir “Hillbilly Elegy” rose a humongous 13,000%. His backstory has been routinely cited by a wide variety of political experts (including his present political opponents) in an attempt to more fully understand the Trump campaign victory in 2016. The candid portrait of Appalachia in particular and of rural poverty in general has helped many to appreciate the appeal of the former president to the forgotten members of the working class.
