Bessent Defends Tariffs in Senate Hearing, Calls Critics Sufferers of "Tariff Derangement Syndrome"

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stepped into somewhat hostile territory in the Senate Finance Committee hearing recently. But despite dramatic criticism from Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR) and other top Democrats on the Committee, Bessent took an early victory lap on tariffs, highlighted the importance of making the 'Tax Cuts and Jobs Act' permanent, and predicted more investment in U.S. manufacturing would lead to economic growth and increased tax revenue. Illegal Immigration Didn't Just Rise Under Biden

Under former President Joe Biden, illegal immigration exploded. According to new, well-documented findings from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), 6.7 million illegal entrants were released or otherwise allowed to remain in the United States during Mr. Biden's term. The total illegal immigrant population surged from 10.22 million in January of 2021 to 15.4 million by January of 2024. A 50% jump in three years is not "stagnant." It is historically reckless. By May of 2025, the number dropped slightly to 14.8 million. This decline was only due to President Trump's aggressive enforcement actions upon his return to the White House.
