Obama Addresses American Islamist Convention

President Obama addressed the 50th annual convention of the Islamic Society of North America via videotape, praising the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood entity for its partnership with his administration. A Clarion Project report showed that the convention's roster of speakers includes many extremists. "Over the last half-century, you’ve upheld the proud legacy of American-Muslims' contributions to our national fabric and this gathering is a testament to that tradition," Obama says to ISNA. [more...]

Desperate Big Labor Shows True Colors on Labor Day

Over the Labor Day holiday, Big Labor once again demonstrated how desperate it is to rebuild its diminishing membership roles. Despite the fact the tactics they have been utilizing for the last 20 years are not working, they keep on using them. The union membership results speak for themselves: union membership dropped by 398,000 in 2012, leaving membership at post-WWII low off 11.3 percent. [more...]

The Definition of a "Living Wage"

I find it interesting that an industry with 75% percent turnover in workers would want to unionize. No one goes to McDonald’s, Burger King or KFC to pursue a career in burger flipping in order to take care of a family. These jobs are one of the learning cycles in life - a normal and natural progression on the path to one’s life career. They provide great experiences that teach a young person how to take responsibility for his or her actions, to learn how to work in a team environment, to learn what "8 to 5" means and why a company needs to make a profit. These are good skills to have and lessons that need to be learned. It is not meant to be a life sustaining job. [more...]

The Syria Decision

Is America getting ready to unleash the dogs of war based on faulty intelligence?  The UN fact finding mission to Syria is still unconvinced that Assad was the one who used the chemical weapons. In addition, the original intelligence report provided by the Israeli intelligence "Unit 8200 electronic intelligence" group reveals that the August 21st attack was a staged attack by the rebels to force America to get involved in Syria. Assad had been on a winning streak and it had become clear that America was losing interest in supporting what America perceived as increasingly radicalized rebels. Therefore, by using Sarin gas on their own people, the rebels knew they can force America to come and take out Assad or at least weaken him drastically, thus paving the way for a major game changer in Syria. The Government's Role in the War on Drugs

Using heroin, cocaine and other such substances can ruin any life. The USA has therefore been waging a massive and decades-long war on drugs, both on the federal and local level. In essence, the government is saying that the people cannot resist this particular temptation, so it is attempting to prevent drugs from being available. A civic matter is something public that is entirely beyond the ability of individuals to deal with, such as road building or enforcing truth in packaging. The personal struggle to avoid harmful substances, however, is a component of one’s personal obligation to live morally. Common sense dictates that it only makes sense to wage war if it accomplishes something. In the case of this war, the battle against drugs has been terribly expensive and most ineffective.  [more...]

Kanye West and Beyonce Choose Money over Human Rights

Two of the best-known names in popular culture, Kanye West and Beyonce Knowles, are getting some heat for their astonishing insensitivity to victims of human rights abuses. Both music superstars recently performed at the Kazakhstan wedding of the grandson of country’s brutal dictator.

Kanye’s case, media reports indicate that he was given a $3 million check for his entertainment services. A Kazakh billionaire and co-owner of one of the country's largest banks reportedly paid the rapper. The amount Beyonce received has not been reported.

Kanye has been using race and class issues to peddle his latest album, "Yeezus," as illustrated with song titles such as "New Slaves" and "Black Skinhead." He apparently has little concern for the oppressed people of Kazakhstan.

It was only a few months ago that Beyonce was embroiled in another human rights-related controversy, when in the spring of 2013 she and husband Jay-Z took a vacation to Cuba and allowed a repressive communist regime to use the couple's celebrity for propaganda purposes. [more...]

Is Obama Trying to Purposely Start World War III?

Two things are happening right now under President Barack Obama that are unprecedented. First, Obama is about to go to war in Syria and risk your sons' and daughters' lives on behalf of our enemy, al-Qaida. Second, he is about to risk starting World War III. Are you on board?

And then there's Obama's "red line." Obama's defenders say, "Syria passed the red line. We have no choice." Really?  So we now call extremist Muslims killing other extremist Muslims a "red line" that demands U.S. intervention. But extremist Muslims in Egypt burning more than 70 churches to the ground and killing Christians is not a "red line?" In one place (Syria), we want to go to war. In the other (Egypt), we continue to send billions of dollars in foreign aid as a reward for killing Christians. Do you support Obama's definition of a "red line?" I know I don't. [more...]

Social media has blown up recently about Miley Cyrus's performance at the VMAs. Mainstream media hopped on the bandwagon, diverting the nation's eyes from more constructive dialogue. Regardless of your opinion on the subject, America cannot seem to get over the fact that another child-age pop star has reached puberty and is acting accordingly. Americans seem to have forgotten that Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes experienced this same transition as did every other child star on down the line. For a music scene already laced in provocative images and for such a basic, otherwise understood life transition, our collective society cannot seem to extract itself from the so-called scandal. The U.S. is facing a debt crisis again and cannot even pay the interest on the debt it already has unless the "drunken sailors" can borrow more. Some of the world’s largest economies - California, New York, Illinois and Michigan - all big blue states, by the way, are already bankrupt and beyond saving. Oh, but the Feds will step in.  They have to!  These states make Greece look like a slinky toy and Detroits all over the U.S. are coming down fast. When we turn on the TV and see Miley Cyrus jumping around in latex underwear, sticking her tongue out in a sexual way, we know the bones of the country are decaying. We are buried under a ton of dirty politics, liberal progressive social welfare programs, bad economic decisions, taxes, a burlap social fabric, gun violence... and, of course, a looming fiscal meltdown. What is the proper scope of government - how much of society should it control? Ancient Jewish wisdom dictates that government should control civil but not moral and ethical matters.  Examples of civil issues are road building and protecting people from violent and white collar crime. Such activities as sponsoring a museum, a university liberal arts program, or a stop smoking and eat healthy campaign have to do with morality – the conviction that they enrich and better peoples' lives. Government should be involved in the first category, but not the second. I would like to offer a modern explanation for this reasoning of the ancients. [more...]

What many people don’t realize is that the Federal Reserve is not actually printing money anymore.  They just type numbers into bank accounts after they decide how much money they’d like to create that day.  The Federal Reserve is not a branch of our U.S. government.  It is, however, a total scam run by con artists whose main objective is the best interest of its members.  A lot of rich guys like Rockefeller and JP Morgan started this organization and it’s basically a cartel.  Think, “drug cartel." The Federal Reserve devalues our currency by creating new money.  Since the Federal Reserve was created in 1913, the U.S. dollar has lost 96 percent of its purchasing power. [more...]

Where Does Our Right to Privacy Come From?

When citizens complain about the NSA snooping, what is the basis for that complaint? Why is it wrong for the government to snoop into citizens' lives?   We all have a moral imperative that says it's wrong, but can we explain why it's wrong? If the highest ethic is safety and the government can best keep us safe through excessive snooping, then clearly safety would trump privacy.  How should governments, lawyers and judges address these issues?   And is "because the Constitution says so" a real answer to the question? Newark District Gave $933K to Group Aligned with Farrakhan

Among the many questionable expenditures EAGnews recently found after reviewing Newark Public Schools’ finances was this especially curious one: $933,967 to the Women in Support of the Million Man March (WISOMMM) organization. The Newark school district says the money is used to pay the organization for “the operation of early childhood programs.” As it turns out, the WISOMMM recently filed for bankruptcy protection, according to the Wall Street Journal. The group is also under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice, which has accused it of “improperly spending” parts of a $345,325 federal grant and then “attempting to ‘cover up their actions’ during a subsequent investigation,” according to the WSJ. Tragic Killing Shows Dangers of Violent Video Games

A tragic shooting took place recently in a typically quiet area of Louisiana. It was late afternoon in a tiny town fatefully named Slaughter, where amidst peaceful, forested, rolling hills 87-year-old Marie Smothers' life came to a violent end. The elderly woman was shot in the back of the head while leisurely watching TV. Shockingly, the police revealed to the public that the assailant was an 8-year-old boy.

According to local law enforcement, the killing was intentional. East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office officials believe the young lad’s pulling of the trigger was a deliberate act that horrifically occurred just moments after he had been engaged in playing a notoriously violent video game. "Although a motive for the shooting is unknown at this time investigators have learned that the juvenile suspect was playing a video game, 'Grand Theft Auto IV,' a realistic game that has been associated with encouraging violence and awards points to players for killing people, just minutes before the homicide occurred," the statement read. To Support or Not to Support Egypt

I respectfully dispute the administration’s grasp of the recent events in Egypt. First of all, it is not true that the U.S. policy is to only support "good guys" in Egypt like Morsi. Mubarak was a very brutal despot, yet the U.S. sent him aid for 30 years. Furthermore, Morsi is not a "good guy" - not by any stretch of the imagination. While it is true that Morsi was elected democratically, so too was Adolph Hitler. Hitler won an election, but soon thereafter, he dismantled Germany's democracy and became its supreme ruler. Morsi was in the midst of doing almost the exact same thing when he was finally ousted; he had already legally become Egypt's dictator for life, and he was busy neutering the judiciary and legislature. Accordingly, if Mubarak and Morsi were supported unhesitatingly, the same should apply to the present Egyptian Army. There are, however, two entirely different reasons for why the U.S. should fully support Egypt's current rulers. They have to do with morality and safety. [more...]

Institutions of Higher Learning... About Sex

We expect colleges to hand out information at the beginning of the school year about dealing with the anxiety of attending college, how to manage your time, or how to study. But if you plan to attend the College of Charleston, one of the first introductions you will receive is "Find your Erotic self" - in comic book form! This comic book is a memoir about a woman coming to terms with her sexual identity and her closeted gay father who had a relationship with an underage male babysitter.  This helps prepare our young adults for the "real world?" What does this have to do with entering college and excelling in a career? Shouldn’t I find "myself” before I find my “erotic self?" How about I find my dorm room first and then the bookstore? A grocery store would be nice and even the nearest clinic or dry cleaner. Somewhere, about 400 items down on the list might be a comic book that explores gender and sexuality issues. [more...]

Christians against Obamacare

MSNBC host Ed Schultz says anyone who disagrees with Obamacare is a "phony Christian" who doesn't want to be his brother's keeper. As the author of Godonomics, where I lay out multiple moral reasons why one might be against Obamacare, let me correct Ed.  On Schultz's misquoting of the Bible with his reference to being our "brother's keeper" - the Bible NEVER advocates being our brother's keeper.   The only time the phrase is used, is by Cain right after he killed his brother.  When advocating taking care of your brother, it is best not to quote the guy who killed his brother. Actually, the Bible advocates "carrying each other's burdens" while affirming each person "carry their own load." [a few moral reasons why a Christian might reject Obamacare...]
