Civics is the Business of Citizenship

The chaos that erupted in Ferguson, MO is the result of creeping civic decay in public life. Over the years, American civilians have increasingly declined in their levels of civic engagement, knowledge, participation and awareness. Civics is the business of citizenship. It is summed up with three things: personal values, knowledge of the system that keeps our world spinning and a skill set to pursue a goal that gets others to go into business with you towards attaining that goal. The whole business of politics has demotivated civilians away from this subject, propelling an epidemic where too many people are illiterate in power. [more...]

The President's Labor Day Speech - A Conservative Pushback

In Obama's Labor Day speech, he outlined what many Democrats are using as a midterm platform, highlighting hopes to raise the minimum wage and pass immigration reform. He also used the speech to portray Republicans as obstructionists who are holding the country back, telling the receptive audience that "most of the policies I am talking about have two things in common: they are going to help more families get ahead, and Republicans who run our Congress oppose almost all of them." I say when it comes to employers and employees, the government should protect the rights and safety of all parties, but it should not interfere at all in the agreements between them. Hollywood's War on Free Expression

In the current cultural environment, political correctness puts forth the rationale that an ideological set of standards is being exercised in an effort to prevent offensive expression. However, the implementation of the inflexible liberal rules is sometimes at the expense of liberty and truth. Enforcement of a politically correct rubric has become, in essence, a war on various aspects of free expression including language, writing, images, and music. Never Borrow from the IRS

There is one place that you should NEVER, EVER borrow money from, besides loan sharks. Do you know what that place is? I'll give you a hint, people refer to it by using three letters! It's the Internal Revenue Service. If you have employees, you have to pay payroll taxes and other withheld taxes to the government. When things get tight, it is very tempting to borrow from these taxes to pay bills; after all, it is so available. However, don't do it or you will face the bounty hunter from hell. Trust me, they make "Dog" the Bounty Hunter look like a pussy cat. Borrowing tax money is theft; it isn't yours. You are a fiduciary for that money. If you willfully fail to send in the money owed to the government, there is a penalty for 100% of the tax owed. Let me say this again in case you are tired while reading this. You will not only owe the original tax money, but also a 100% penalty! This is in addition to other penalties and interest. It would make a loan shark blush. [more...]

The nuclear-armed adolescent running North Korea is firing off missiles into the ocean, China is expanding militarily and threatening its neighbors, and Russia has muscled its way into Crimea. In the Middle East, horrific Muslim terrorism and murder is mushrooming, and the former head of the CIA, retired Gen. Michael Hayden said he expects ISIS to attempt an attack on targets in the U.S. or Europe. There is indeed a crying need for a capable international peacekeeper. Yet, throughout this all, has anyone seen or heard from the UN? Has it done even one iota “To maintain international peace and security” or help with “The suppression of acts of aggression or other breaches of the peace?” Seemingly, the UN has done virtually nothing to secure peace. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

The success of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is the beginning of an entirely new business strategy I expect to see more of in the future of non-profit fundraising tactics. The rules of the ALS challenge go like this: people record themselves dumping a bucket of ice over their heads. Followed by posting the video to social media, the person challenges friends they tag to do the same within 24 hours or to donate money to ALS. Unprecedented influxes in funds raised by ALS non-profits suggest that the majority of people taking the challenge are dumping ice and donating dollars. This has other non-profits attempting to generate a viral fad of their own, but so far none have been as lucrative or as fad-tastic as the ice-bucket challenge thus far. [more...]

Michigan Teacher Compares Ferguson Looting to the Boston Tea Party, Cites 'White Privilege'

Activist teachers are already spinning yarns in their classrooms to score political points in the shooting death of Ferguson, Missouri teen Michael Brown. The unidentified Selma, Alabama teacher who was suspended for having students reenact the shooting isn't the only one. Mike Kaechele, a Grand Rapids, Michigan teacher says the incident, as well as resulting looting and rioting, are a good reminder that "institutional racism has always been" in America. [more...]

There seems to be a common thread to reporting on violence by the mainstream media. They only show what they want you to see to get you on their side. If someone shows the REAL violence, the REAL pictures, the REAL savagery of what’s taking place in the Middle East, it's inappropriate. The cries for Israel to stop bombing innocent children in Palestine is on practically every news channel, every minute of the day. Think about it, these are cries for Israel to stop defending itself because Palestinian kids were dying accidentally (or not so accidentally for those parents who chose to remain in an area they were warned would be bombed). Sagging Summer Box Office Alters Hollywood Calculus

Despite some surprising blockbuster hits, the summer box-office numbers still have the movie studios concerned. Even though there were not the kind of poor showings the likes of those occurring last year, including “The Lone Ranger,” “White House Down,” “After Earth,” and “R.I.P.D,” which stunned the industry by tanking upon release, the summer season and possibly the entire year are likely to be major disappointments for the entertainment business revenue-wise.

Rather than totally bombing out at the box office, the 2014 crop of summer films seems to be sharing in a general malaise. Even those movies considered to be winners failed to solidly hit the target. Films such as “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” “Maleficent,” “Godzilla,” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past” managed to garner some sizable numbers but none exceeded the $300 million mark like “Iron Man 3” and “ Despicable Me 2” succeeded in doing last year. There is No War on Religion, It's on Christianity

A few weeks ago, the FFRF - Freedom from Religion Foundation - lost a lawsuit they filed against the 9/11 Memorial Museum. They claimed that displaying the cross that was left at the bottom of the rubble (not manmade) that served as a symbol of hope to the first responders, Jews, Christians, Atheists and others during that tragedy was a clear violation of the separation of church and state. Once again, they were wrong. The courts sided with the American people and said that not only was it a symbol of hope, but it was part of our national heritage and history. You separation-of-church-and-state people seem to be very silent on favors provided to other religions, yet start foaming at the mouth when the words "cross," "Bible," "Christ" or any scriptures are used.  [more...]

New Taxi Apps Uber Complicated

New taxi service apps like Uber and Lyft are using technology to connect passengers with drivers, while threatening local cab company businesses. Both Uber and Lyft appeal to the public because all business arrangements and payments are done through the app. Each city has their own laws, which require taxi companies to abide by specific regulations. Some cities' states have bent regulatory laws for the taxi service apps, while others have banned the apps altogether. And local cab companies and government bodies are spinning their wheels in an effort to keep up with the technologically-driven structure of Uber’s business operations. [more...]

1. Go to College: Even in today's high cost environment, college is still worth it even if you want to be a plumber or pro football player. You never know what you will end up doing and the skills taught in college can be useful throughout your life. But don't incur a lot of debt for it. If parents can pay the tuition, go the cheap route by attending less expensive schools or a community college first.

2. Find your life's purpose: I have found that although many people have trouble figuring out what to do in life, everyone is born with some natural talents and abilities. Choose a career that will enable you to maximize your abilities and your interests. [more...]

Utah teacher: 'Too much risk' reciting the Pledge of Allegiance

It's now a legal liability to recite the full Pledge of Allegiance. "I retired from teaching just last year, and although I would recite the Pledge with my class, it was only on special occasions," Shauna Gertsch, a former elementary education teacher from Salt Lake County, tells The Daily Universe. A Cogent Policy on Battling Terrorism

I.S.I.S. continues its march, and things in Iraq have deteriorated - from bad to worse to gruesome. I.S.I.S. has beheaded, mutilated, raped, stoned and even crucified those whose behavior is “un-Islamic” or whose religious convictions displease them. As a result, the U.S. military has just reentered Iraq, this time for humanitarian reasons and also to slow down I.S.I.S.’s military advances. The reaction from some quarters has been that this is not enough. For example, Senator John McCain referred to the U.S. actions as a “pinprick that is meaningless and almost worse than nothing.” At first glance, Mr. McCain was boldly advocating that America act with the strength and world leadership for which it was once known. At second glance, McCain’s words were little more than a purposely vague cheap shot taken at the President. Just what did he say? Did he mean that the U.S. should once again fight an all-out war in Iraq? I doubt it. So what then did he mean? [more...]

Hollywood Celebs Fund Midterm Elections for Democrats

Throughout the spring and summer of this year, President Obama was hard at work priming the Hollywood money pump. He managed to take a trio of fundraising trips to Los Angeles in a short three-month period. The president’s last journey in July of 2014 involved two lucrative political fundraisers that were scheduled during his brief 24-hour stay. The first fundraising stop was at the Hancock Park home of television producer Shonda Rhimes, and the second star-studded campaign finance fest took place at Michael Rapino’s residence, the CEO of Live Nation. Both events corralled plenty of currency for the Democratic National Committee to use in the upcoming midterm elections. [more...]

How Do the Rich Take Advantage of the Poor?

India’s asbestos industry is a two billion dollar business that creates about 300,000 jobs for the impoverished nation of about 1.2 billion people. It is a business that is structured upon an idea that is selfishly delusional to the seller and "delusionally" beneficial to the buyer. Educated individuals in India have no choice but to breathe air polluted with asbestos fibers, while others are experiencing a false sense of joy and economic improvement in the present. The disastrous long-term effects are in the future, where few wealthy and educated folk concern themselves. In my book, Sell Your Business for More Than It’s Worth, I wrote that if the benefits do not outweigh the costs, then neither party can win. Business is the game of give and take, where the one who takes typically wins more than the other. But if we were discussing this business in terms of human life as currency, then the essence of humanity is at a devastating loss. [more...]

Do We Have a Sociopath in the White House?

I believe we have a president who is an arrogant, egomaniacal sociopath. The definition of a "sociopath" is a person with an antisocial personality disorder. They are often well liked because of their charm and high charisma, but they do not usually care about other people. They think mainly of themselves and often blame others for the things that they do. They have a complete disregard for rules and lie constantly. They seldom feel guilt or learn from punishments.

My new book The Murder of the Middle Class presents the story in vivid detail. I was President Barack Obama’s college classmate at Columbia University, Class of 1983. I’ve been trying to tell America about Obama’s “problem” for seven long years now. By college, a person’s personality, attitude and behavior is fairly well set. That’s why Obama’s Columbia days tell us so much about his behavior as president today. Where was he? Why does virtually no one from Columbia remember the future president of the United States?
