HUD's Homelessness Reforms Put Human Lives Ahead of Housing Bureaucracy

Chronic homelessness rose 81% since 2013 despite soaring spending under the previous strategy.

The First Circuit Court of Appeals has cleared the way for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to move forward with desperately needed reforms to the nation's homelessness system. After months of litigation by the Homeless Industrial Complex to repeatedly block these reforms, the decision allows HUD to redefine success and fund the programs that generate the greatest success in moving the homeless toward recovery, restoration and self-sufficiency... and not a moment too soon. The Democratic Party's long-standing support for Israel has reached a turning point, and a July House vote put the division on public display. On July 15, 103 House Democrats voted for an amendment that would have eliminated $3.3 billion in U.S. security assistance to Israel. 98 Democrats voted against it, while 10 voted "present." The amendment failed, but the tally exposed a party split on one of America's closest alliances. For years, support for Israel was a point of bipartisan agreement. Trump & Xi – It's Not Time to Poke the Panda

Both the left and right have panned Trump for the pomp and circumstance he afforded Xi in their recent meetings. But this once again misses the mark. I believe Trump's current agenda includes: a) dominating and reaping the economic, social, and security rewards of AI, b) finishing the job in Iran (after the mid-terms), c) taking on the drug cartels and turning Cuba in Latin America. At some point, we will be forced to deal with China's expansionist ambitions, which include Taiwan and the control of internationally critical waterways and technologies. Ideally, we will postpone this confrontation until after we have completed our objectives in the Middle East and Latin America. Senate Aging Committee Chairman Makes Bold Prediction on Rx Labeling Laws

Chairman Rick Scott (R-FL) of the Senate Aging Committee made a prediction during a hearing on domestic generic drug manufacturing saying that his CLEAR Labels Act will become law this year. The law would require drug makers put the source of their active pharmaceutical ingredients, or APIs – the key active ingredients that make up the final product itself – on the label. As it is, drug companies tend to put nothing on the label, or only where the medicine was distributed and packaged. There is a hope that labeling requirements would be a step in the direction of giving U.S. generic drug manufacturers more preferential treatment, but this would require more acts of Congress, the FDA, or new rules for defense department procurement officers in charge of buying medicine for veteran hospitals. [more...]
